We had the good fortune of connecting with Shari Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shari, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Always finish what you start! Plan for each project in advance and start as soon as possible. Don’t procrastinate!
When working on-site it’s better to be over prepared with supplies, materials etc.
Always prep the best way possible.
Always clean up after yourself before you leave the job site, every day. Neatness counts😀

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I started my career as a Professional Interior Designer specializing in Contract Design in New York.

My primary responsibilities included space planning, drafting plans (manually), furniture and finish specifications. I worked in this business for 23 years. During this period, Faux Finishes was gaining popularity and we started selecting them for jobs. I thought to myself, “I can do this.” So, I enrolled in some courses and began painting. When we closed the Interior Design business, I began painting faux finishes on walls. Concurrently, I also offered furniture refinishing services and faux finish painting on the furniture. I also start teaching children Art. A couple of years later I moved to San Diego, and rented studio space with other artists in Carlsbad.

Everyone was painting on canvas, except me. I hadn’t painted on canvas in many years, but it ignited an itch and I began painting again! It brought back an old passion. In addition, I also give Puppy Painting Classes which are so much fun.I get to do all the things that make me smile!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Number 1 is the San Diego Safari Park because it’s a wonderful experience for all ages. To see the animals in their most natural habitats without actually visiting their native country. Plus, you are contributing to the protection of wildlife.

Number 2 Drive up the 101 from Carlsbad heading south with a little blurb about each beach town as we drive through. Possibly a stop for a coffee at Lofty Coffee in Encinitas or something to go at Seaside Market in Cardiff.

Number 3 Dog Beach in Del Mar Is a Must! I have 2 Labrador Retrievers who love the beach and it’s always a fun time, for both canines and humans!

Number 4 Belly Up in Solana Beach because you can’t go wrong with live music, right?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank Carey Garneau for recommending me to The Shoutout.

I’m most grateful to my clients who have commissioned my work and those who have purchased my paintings. I would also like to recognized all the students (and their parents) whom I have had the pleasure of introducing art and artists to over the years. It has been so fun seeing creativity bloom before my eyes. Thank you to Shoutout for recognizing me, today-this is very exciting!
