Meet Lawrence MacAlpine | Cybersecurity Compliance Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawrence MacAlpine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lawrence, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I used to be a workaholic. After burning out twice and then reading Win at Work and Succeed at Life by Megan Hyatt Miller and Michael S. Hyatt, I was armed with a thought process to find a better balance.
I think that having the idea of working smarter for fewer hours, lends more time to do thing other things you love while still making progress on the work side of things.
my new quote for life is work smarter than harder.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started in tech 15 years ago and always wanted to work for myself. I knew I had to learn a skill so I put in the (10) years at 120 hours a week to learn as much as I could and find my niche.
Jumping to working for myself full time was the hardest jump I’ve made. Leaving the cushion of the 9-5 seemed daunting. I Think I valued owning the ability to set my hours and schedule more, because here I am a few years later.
My company Sakra has really taken off and if I could say any one thing about building a company, I’d say don’t give up! It’s hard but well worth it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend came to town, we’d definitely get up at 6 AM and go watch the sunrise on turkey hill, then we’d go over to inheritance juicery and have our fill of refreshsing, fresh made juices.
Other notable things we’d do is go rock climbing and then hiking. Wrap it up with a trip to my favorite sushi shop and we’d have an amazing day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really credit the book Win at Work and Succeed at Life: 5 Principles to Free Yourself from the Cult of Overwork Book by Megan Hyatt Miller and Michael S. Hyatt with much of the life change I was able to learn and implement.
I was on my way to a heart attack and worse, but reading that book on my plane ride to tampa changed the trajectory of my story.
