We had the good fortune of connecting with Esteria Jando and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Esteria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think my life is a very good representation of the saying “the greater the risk the greater the reward”… RISK indicates the possibility of loss, or loss of value of an investment. . . When it really boils down to it – every choice we make in life has some level of risk – and those instances that take us outside of our comfort zone, where the fear of the unknown is at an all time high tend to carry the highest level of risk. This is how I have felt every time i took on a new student loan for an educational degree, everytime I tried a new sport, and particularly every time I’ve made the jump to significantly pivot in my career. I can say without a doubt, that I have never been disappointed in the risks I’ve taken. When i was 21 I would’ve never thought I’d become a second career registered nurse at the age of 32. At age 26 when I was an atheist, i never would’ve imagined I’d be a practicing witch & energy healer at 35… Life has a way of rewarding the brave … and the beautiful thing about trying new things is that the only way to fail is to never try or to quit all together- otherwise there is always a lesson even in the event that things didn’t turn out the way I expected.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a naturally creative individual, and since I was a young kid I always wanted to get my hands on paper and pencil, markers, crayons, paint, or anything else I could use to make things. There’s always been a strong urge and impulse to simply CREATE, whether it is making my own home decor, painting an abstract piece, or making a vision board for my annual goals. . . Nowadays my creativity is not bound by any specific style, medium or genre. I make macrame hangars with crystals, I create paint pours that include intuitive messages, and I make digital drawings inspired by witchy & magical concepts complete with sigils and ciphers. . .

As I’ve gotten older and navigated through my 30s- I’ve come to understand my neurodiversity (ADHD) and become mindful of my rejection sensitivity and people-pleasing tendencies… Thankfully, this new awareness has started to melt away the fears that surrounded my need to be well-liked by all. So, I would have to say am most proud of the fact that I’ve come to realize that- my life, my hobbies, my likes and dislikes are meant to bring me into alignment in such a way that I can be of service to others in a way that rings authentic TO ME… and not necessarily in the ways that are popularized by pop culture, media, or the latest trends. This has opened the door for me to offer services and art that uniquely speak to my own personal experiences imbued in magic, practicality, and healing – and hope they can guide others to new perspectives as well. Afterall, it’s not every day that you can buy a reiki-infused painting with a divine message meant just for you- and I think that is pretty cool. If there is any wisdom I could impart on the reader – it is that you should never hide your gifts from the world, we need YOUR unique magic that only you can birth into the world – You are the light you seek, you are the oracle with the answers you need. YOU have everything YOU need to leave this world in a better state than you found it. <3

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is a tough one… I’m actually a bit of a homebody! If a friend had a whole week, thre are definitely a few things I for sure would like them to experience: – A lazy afternoon wine-tasting around several locations in Temecula
– A calm morning walk along the boardwalk of Mission Beach before San Diegans wake up to fill the beaches
– I would for sure take them to one of my favorite Sushi joints (Either, Jump Tokyo in Grantville or OTOTO in Clairemont)
– A fancy dinner at C-Prime ending at one of the various speakeasys in downtown
– A sunday walk exploring all the little shops Ocean Beach has to offer
. . . Just to name a few!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
During a time when I was going through a very difficult period in my career (in 2019), I was led to work with Melanie Esperon – who is a talented Reiki Master and Angel reader. She opened my eyes to the possibilities that lay before me and got me on the path to seeing myself as so much more than just mundane. Of course, the teachings and books of Deepak Chopra also became seminal in my shifting perspectives on what life could look like in my future.
