Meet Markeisha Brown | Digital Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Markeisha Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Markeisha, how do you think about risk?
You have to take them. Taking risks in life can open doors you’ve never imagined. Yes, taking risks means stepping into the unknown and possible failure. However, not doing so also means being stationary in life. A little over five years ago, I had to decide whether to accept a job offer in California or remain in Philadelphia and continue my job search. Some people would say that’s an easy decision, but the job offer came with a low salary and no help with moving expenses. Not to mention, I would have to move three thousand miles away from my family and friends. I would also have to make this move in under two weeks. I weighed all the pros and cons I could think of and sought the advice of many people. In the end, I decided that I had to take the offer. To date, this has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. The move and job helped to shape me into the woman I am today. My confidence has vastly improved, and I am learning the direction I would like to go in life. If I did not take that risk, I wouldn’t have discovered how passionate I am about content creation. I also learned that I want to pursue a creative career.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, I work in the medical field as a surgery coordinator because I was on the path to becoming a doctor. I remember growing up I told myself that I was going to become a pediatrician, and I was determined to do so. I loved science and I excelled in my science courses. Thus, I placed my focus on that area. I did my undergraduate degree at The Pennsylvania State University and then got into a medical post-baccalaureate program. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the program due to finances. From there, I started working a few jobs while working on getting back on “track”. I never realized as I got older that my passion changed. I recall always taking pictures and videos of everything that I did, things I would see, and even what I wore. I always thought this was a hobby until I realized that this was always what I wanted to do in a professional setting. Transitioning from the medical field to a creative career has its challenges. For one, they’re at two opposite ends of the spectrum. So garnering experience within the creative field took more effort than I expected. But again, this is my passion so putting in the work necessary to exceed is not an issue for me. The world should know that I am dynamic, I am diverse, and this is only the beginning of my story.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where do I start (Lol)? I’m most grateful to God, I am truly blessed. To my dad, thank you for the love, support, and mentorship (there is a longer list but I would run out of space). Thank you to my step-mother, you are truly appreciated and I am thank for you.
As for my brothers, thank you for listening to my ideas and for the support. Next, I am very grateful for my amazing grandmother and aunt. Thank you both for always reaching out to me. They never fail to encourage me and most importantly, listen to me. Then there is my wonderful cousin, thank you for your support and encouragement, and for entertaining my silliness. I admire your strength. Your time is coming!
To my friends, I love each and every one of you. The love and support you each give don’t go unnoticed. Thank you all for the mentorship, and for lending an ear. You are all powerful.
There are many more that I have to thank, none of you are forgotten. Thank you all for playing a role in my story.
Love,
Markeisha
