Meet Anita Levels | Vocal Artist/Voice Influencer/Teaching Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Levels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anita, what matters most to you?
Someone once said to me, “ALL I OWE YOU IS THE TRUTH”.
I’ll never forget how that made me feel.
And how this statement seemed to align and give life to every cell in my body.
It gave a sense of honor to myself, and others around me.
Truth and Authenticity are the values that I esteem in all of my partnerships.
My family partnerships, friend partnerships, romantic partnerships, career partnerships, and most importantly
the partnership with myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hi. I consider myself a multi-genre, multi-media vocal artist, voice influencer and teaching artist.
I know, I know! This may seem overwhelming for a typical audience, as audiences have been trained to put artists in boxes.
But things are changing… And audiences are getting hip.
We’re starting to see artists as a whole and not just a “that”.
And guess what, I’m excited for this transition!
I’m a performing vocal artist that sings in all the American music art forms:
Rock & Roll, Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, Gospel.
I also have a podcast called:
“Corn and Potatoes are Good for You”,
A podcast that explores all things spiritual and sensual.
I’m also a teaching artist that has a deep passion of spreading the good news of the origins of American music.
What I want the world to know is this,
WE ARE ALL CREATORS.
You don’t have to pick up a microphone.
You don’t have to have a canvas with splattered colors before you.
You don’t have to have a pen in your hand.
But yet and still, you are a creator.
We are all creating the world we live in.
I feel that I have a responsibility with every song I sing to create a world with the words that I sing or say.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well depends on which “city” I’m in! If I’m “home” which New Orleans is home to me, The French Market, for sure.
Its my favorite place when I’m there because there’s the food and the local/international niches vendors all in one place and it’s right near Bourbon Street, so we can walk right down a block or two and get that experience.
Now if you’re in Pittsburgh where I reside, definitely Mount Washington.
It’s stunning! You can see the entire downtown Pittsburgh and beyond.
Downtown Pittsburgh is met by three rivers, and you can see it all from this view.
Afterwhich, we could check out one of my favorite places to listen to live music and they have some of THE BEST WINGS, Genuine Pub (which is about 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.) This would definitely be a great night!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I stand on the shoulders of so many! I first give honor to the ones that were forced over there waters and were then marginalized to a life of abuse and neglect.
I honor them.
And then, my parents and grandparents.
Both of my parents are singers who are New Orleans born and raised. I hear their stories of growing up in the 9th Ward section of New Orleans. And in particular my grandparents on my father’s side. And how they would have Sunday concerts in their backyard where Aaron Neville, The Meters, and Jean Knight (the “Mr Big Stuff” singer) would stop by and sing. It would be filled with all type of instruments, singers and music. I must add I also have uncles and aunties from New Orleans that also sing. It’s a rich legacy that I was steeped in and it’s a sincere honor to be apart of such a rich family legacy.
In addition to the above Act3Consulting: https://www.act3cp.com, SCALE https://barrelstobeethoven.com/the-scale-fellowship-program/ and UniSound: https://unisound.us
These partnerships have been VERY instrumental in the advancement of my artistry and I MUST give them a SHOUTOUT for their work they’ve done with me and so many other artist.
