We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For my faith based candle business I noticed that there weren’t many candle brands that publicly displayed scripture quotes on their labels. Me being passionate about my faith and passionate about great candles, decided to merge the two and that’s how Spirit and Truth Candle Company was created.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Spirit and Truth Candle Company was created to be a sweet reminder that God is always there with you despite whatever you may be facing. Each candle is poured in handmade batches and made with a special prayer. I created this brand to connect people of all walks of life to God. I also created my personal brand Walking With Lisa, LLC as a way to share my testimony to inspire women to experience transformation in Christ.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in creating and developing both companies is to stay true to myself and my mission. I’ve learned that comparison truly is the thief of joy and that I cannot focus on my company and my goals if I am fixated on another company. I’ve learned that consistency is just as important and that people actually want to hear from me and value my thoughts and opinions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite restaurant in Cleveland is The Last Page in Pinecrest and Sarita in Lakewood. Both places have a nice ambiance, great food and great drinks. The service has always been prompt and I’ve always felt well taken care of after each visit. I would also recommend visiting The Flats on a nice summer evening. Take a walk down the harbor near the boats and eat a nice meal with good entertainment. I’m a foodies so most of the places I recommend will be food related!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate a shoutout to my husband and family. Both have shaped my life in a way that I’m extremely thankful for!
