We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammer Q. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammer, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I didn’t start doing magic just to make money. When I was eight years old, I was first introduced to the world of magic. At 10 years old I started practicing and performing simply because I liked the challenge of perfecting something to the point where it can fool another person. Over the years, I realized that I was naturally turning my passion into a business. My natural interest and persistence in the craft is what led me to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My main occupation is magic. Being a magician for the past 15 years has allowed me to build a good enough foundation to try doing it full time after I graduated from college.  A culmination of practicing, performing, and seeking great mentors was also very impactful to my career in magic.

Alongside of performing, I also manage the tour of magician, Justin Willman. Many people know him from the hit Netflix original, Magic for Humans. Working with Justin and performing my own shows has allowed me to learn and implement the business side of magic at a much deeper level.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Living in the city of Los Angeles, I would definitely take a friend to The Magic Castle, an exclusive invite-only club that features magic acts from all over the world. Magician and non-magician guests can be invited to enjoy.

I would also go to a restaurant called Bossa Nova, which serves amazing Brazilian fusion dishes. Unlike many restaurants in LA, this restaurant closes at around 3 AM, which makes it great spot for a midnight snack. But if you’re looking for something to do during the daylight, then make your way to the coast and visit Malibu. Wonderful beachside restaurants await you. Of course, you can park and go to the beach too!

Lastly, rooftop bars/restaurants in downtown and West Hollywood are definitely something to look into. I have met very unique people at these places. Some of my top picks are Seven Grand, The Highlight Room and Mama Shelter.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I recognize my parents for supporting me from a young age; they took me to the local magic club meetings in my hometown of San Diego. There, I was introduced to the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. I attribute a lot of my growth both personally and professionally from the Magic Castle’s Junior program.
