We had the good fortune of connecting with Jami Goddess and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jami, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I create art with positive mindset that promotes self care and self healing. I am recovering from stage 3 breast cancer so I’m navigating mental health and post-cancer care issues. A percentage of my proceeds go to help good causes such as suicide awareness, single-use plastic reduction and cancer research.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started drawing in my mid-20s and have rigorously pursued a career as an artist. I sometimes wish I would have done something where I made money as it’s been nothing but a struggle – absolutely a blessing and a curse. After 18 months of chemotherapy, radiation, multiple surgeries and losing my job in 2020, I’m learning to find my purpose and my voice as an artist. I’ve had an illustration business since 2002 where I DESIGNED t-shirts for a Tokyo-based boutique chain and a wine label in north county San Diego. My art is about self healing and a positive mindset.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would walk the Bay Bay/Nature Center. Then we’d hit golf balls at the NB golf course driving range where we’d have Moscow mules and buffalo wings and play shuffleboard. Go see music at the Harp and get donuts at Sidecar!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Duranne Collins with Willow Creations OC. She is helping me to find my purpose with art.
