We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
As of this year, the most important decision I’ve made that’s contributed to the success of the business has been hiring a team. Not only are projects more fun with a team, they’re more efficient too. This team is made of up absolute rockstars who each bring their own organizing talent to the table. We love what we do. Lately I’ve been thinking about what I can delegate (social media, advertising, marketing, etc.) to the professionals so I can focus on what I’m most passionate about.

What should our readers know about your business?
Empathy drives my business. We are in service to our clients – helping them declutter, shed the weight of and their attachment to “things”, and create space for an easy-to-maintain organized system. We pride ourselves in helping our clients –many of which are going through a lot–move the needle in their lives. Little changes in their home can lead to impactful changes elsewhere in their lives. It’s powerful. I’m excited by each new project. In the first year of business, we worked with just shy of 100 clients. It was not easy and I think every entrepreneur can relate. I can’t think of a single business that’s “easy”. They all come with their own unique challenges. But it’s so rewarding.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A stroll through Bird Rock for coffee and breakfast. It’s just so cute. Pastries from Wayfarer? I haven’t tried them but photos on the internet tel me I should. A trip to dog beach for the dogs, obviously. Then surfing at Rockpiles or Grandview because you’re in San Diego. Bike to Encinitas to burn off the croissants and make room for lunch and protein balls from Goodonya. Beach hang in Solana. And sunset drinks and dinner at Monarch in Del Mar. It’s safe so say I believe in eating your way through any city you may be visiting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My fiancé deserves the credit for encouraging me to take the leap to start this business. He said, “Give it a try for a few months and if it doesn’t work out, you can always go back to the corporate world.” It was a truth I need to hear. And trying this (or anything) for a few months felt doable. I think that’s important. We get too far ahead of ourselves sometimes and think about building a Fortune 500 company. Start with small, achievable goals. Then build from there. My parents and brother also deserve credit for believing in me, even during the tough times.
