We had the good fortune of connecting with Rechelle Conde-Nau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rechelle, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I noticed many women, myself included, faltered at being fully themselves. By that I mean having the courage to be show up in their own lives in an authentic, transparent, vulnerable way. I wanted, no I needed, to come alongside others and encourage them to be unabashed. To share conversations with others that will help us each become who we already are. Without apology.

The podcast, Unabashed You, was born from this desire. Early on I learned men were listening and I realized the content could definitely be for them too. They were welcomed!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
“Unabashed You” wants you to become who you already are without apology. It’s an opportunity to be encouraged to discover and fulfill what makes you, you, and to feel good about it. Through conversations with guests we celebrate uniqueness through authenticity, transparency and vulnerability. We start off with a fun get-to-know-you segment and then head into the deep-dive which is the guest’s passion. Or if we are in a particular series we will focus on that.

A poem drove me to start. “And then the time came when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin rocked my world with power and truth. I simply had to begin.

While there was nothing easy about getting started, I was driven to overcome each challenge as it came up. Was I techie before UY got started? Not especially. Through pure motivation a website was designed and built, episodes were recorded, edited, produced and uploaded to various platforms. Blogs were written, future guests were invited and scheduled. Repeat.

Everyone wants to be seen, to be heard, and to know they are of value. There are no requirements in being on the show. There are no expectations. Show up, be yourself, and in that, you have impacted someone, possibly many someones to be more who they are.

The world needs more people to understand who they are and to bring that thing that is uniquely them to the rest of us. We NEED you to share that thing that only you can share. If we each did that I think the world would be “full” in the best sense of the word. It’s the feeling you have when you’ve eaten a delicious, satisfying meal and you are satiated. Or when you hear a song you love, your heart has expanded and you feel the joy overflowing. That is what UY wants for each and every person. To become who you already are without apology.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Come to San Diego, America’s finest city and enjoy your time here. First we’ll have breakfast at my place which is a cozy, humble Spanish style home near the beach. From here we will walk down to the beach and take in the sun and sights. If you want to try surfing, Ron will be game to give you a lesson.

For lunch we’ll take a ride up to La Jolla and walk around the shops stopping for lunch at Bernini’s which has the best Cesar salad around. Next we will walk through La Valencia for the view and history. Then it’s down to the cove to take in more beach.

We’ll return to my place for some quiet time to read or just hang out in our beautiful courtyard.

For dinner we will head back up to the shores for dinner at Piatti, one of our favorites! I’ll get the lemon sauced spinach ricotta and basil ravioli, Ron will get the 1/2 chicken. Not sure yet what you will have but it doesn’t matter because the food is delicious. And of course we will get dessert because it’s an important course to me. 🙂 We’ve gotten tickets to a show at La Jolla Playhouse and no matter what it will be memorable.

That was only day one now on to day two. Let’s walk down to Palmsy for breakfast and then head to Sea World. Not so much because we like to watch the animals or go on the rides (you can do both if you like!) but our son is a performer there and it will be fun to see him in action. You’ll get a kick out of it all.

Once we’re spent there will have some low-key time back at home. For dinner we’re walking up to the Fishery for a delightful meal. We love the swordfish and halibut.

Day three has us driving up to Oceanside to meet up with friends who live there. We’ll walk on the beach then have lunch at the Flying Pig. We’ll drive down the coast highway on the way back so we can go through all the beachside towns: Carlsbad, Leucadia, Cardiff (we’ll stop at Seaside Market for some “Cardiff crack” to cook tonight. It’s tri-tip. And if you don’t eat meat no problem, neither do I, we’ll have some tasty sides), Encinitas, Solana Beach and Del Mar.

More quiet time and dinner at home out on the courtyard. We’ll head up to the roof deck to visit. If you’re up for it we’ll play some games. Rummikub or Half-Truths could be fun. Ron may even set up corn hole if you want.

Day four we are off to Balboa Park for the entire day. Having had a quick breakfast at home we’ll start at the zoo. (We’re not much for captive animals but it is a major tourist destination.) If we’re not too tired let’s walk around the rest of Balboa Park with all it’s beauty stopping for drinks at Prado and an appetizer too if you’re not too full from all the junk we ate at the zoo. Then back home to collapse because we are wiped out.

Day five let’s lay low today by bringing the chairs and a picnic lunch to our favorite beach, Horseshoe. It’s time to fully relax. Let’s pick up Carino’s pizza on the way home and let’s watch something on Netflix.

Day six we’re headed first downtown to take in the Gaslamp Quarter and harbor. We’ll have lunch in Little Italy at Davanti Enoteca and walk around a bit afterward. Let’s go to Point Loma on the way home and stop in at my brother’s. We can take a short excursion on his boat then go to the club for a casual dinner. Sounds like fun!

It’s your last day today. What have we not done that you want to do? We could go to a movie at the Lot, head back to the beach, go to Harbor Island for lunch and walk around or even head to Old Town for some authentic Mexican food. Let’s do that! If you’re game.

It’s been great having you. Let’s us know the highlights so we can keep them in mind for future. Until next time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to Ron and Shaun for their lavish belief in me.
