We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Stevenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what do you attribute your success to?
I think one of most important factors behind the success of Rise Jewelry is bringing authenticity to my products and brand. I personally have always loved diving, shells, beachcoming, and everything ocean related. I have found that bringing my personal passions and authentic self into my business has created an energy and drive within myself to keep the business burning bright, and has me inspired for the future. For example, I love sharing stories about my diving adventures, or picking people’s brains about their favorite shells, dive sites etc. I bring that genuine excitement and passion into my business and work, and it allows me to connect with customers through stories, and ultimately through my jewelry. Some of the connections I’ve made around the world are simply organic relationships I’ve made with individuals who share the same passion and love for the ocean. Next thing you know, I’m making friends with someone in Europe who is sending me her favorite shells for me use in my next jewelry collection, while I’m wrapping up sea glass from Hawaii to send to her in return. It’s what makes my job so fun, and fulfilling. I think that genuine passion seeps into my platforms, my relationships, my jewelry pieces, and ultimately the success of my company and brand.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Rise Jewelry is a Hawaiian based fine jewelry brand that is inspired by the natural beauty of the islands. I know I’m certainly not the first to incorporate ocean finds like sea glass and shells into jewelry, however I am really proud to have created my opihi jewelry line. Opihis are small limpet shells that cling onto the rocks along our coastlines. Once they get washed off or eaten by predators, they wash up onto our beaches to be collected and recycled into one of a kind Hawaiian jewelry. I would say Rise Jewelry is most recognized for our original 24k gold opihi jewelry creations; everything from our necklaces, to our opihi rings and bracelets are designs I’ve envisioned for quite a while, and then finally created. Nearly everything is found by me personally on my diving adventures, while other limited edition pieces are ethically sourced from fellow divers and beachcombers from around the world.

I do want customers to know that their purchase helps me to continue to do what I love most- that is being underwater, feeling connected to the ocean, and finding new treasures to make into jewelry!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– Mermaid Caves – Haleiwa Bowls for some Acai Bowls
– China Walls for sunset
– Kaena Point
– Go pick up some incredible local banana bread at Makua Banana Bread
– Hawaii Sushi
– Fresh Catch
– Lulumahu Falls
– ANY beach on the island

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to recognize my husband, Nathan, and my sister Katie. Both of them have supported me in every passion I’ve ever had, but specifically with this business, they’ve been my cheerleaders and late night helpers. I honestly wouldn’t be sane running this business without the two of them. They’re incredible, and I love them both very much.
