We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayne Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shayne, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Brikmoda Social is not being afraid to fail and continue to work hard even when your days are hard. Within the industry, you’re not going to land every client or book every project. You’ll experience hard personal days that affect your work days. But, with continuous drive and hard work to work for the clients you land and the projects you book makes the outcome and successes worth every second. The willingness and drive to work through those days and late nights make the successful outcomes appreciated and filled with gratitude. Leaving space and room to make mistakes, bounce back from them and work even harder has always been an important factor behind my success. Because without failure and mistakes, there’s no room for learning and continuing to grow. Each mistake and each failure is an opportunity to grow and because of that, myself and my business has continued to grow.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a creative firm, we offer multiple creative services. We not only specialize in events and weddings, offering wedding planning, coordinating and styling, we also offer all things social media management, marketing and public relations. This includes everything related to content and digital platforms. What sets us apart from others, is that we’re extremely hands on, we make every client feel like they’re a part of the company and a part of the family. We want every person, brand and company we work with to succeed and be nothing less than happy with their experience with us. I’m most proud of the evolution of Brikmoda Social. What started as a small dream is now a reality, and that alone is something to be proud of. Now, it wasn’t. It was actually pretty difficult. Working full time and managing the business meant 12 hour work days and days of being unsure if it would all be worth it, but it definitely was. I overcame those challenges by just grinding through those long days and always keeping the mentality that it was going to work out and one day it’ll pay off. My sister and I work really hard every day, not only to maintain the company but to keep the people we work with happy, and we enjoy that! So to all our future clients, it’s going to be a fun adventure with us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego being my second home and college town, the options are endless! Not to mention, San Diego is such a big beach town, what’s not to love? First, let’s get to the restaurants and eateries. Big fan of Oggi’s here, specifically in Santee! They’re spicy, chicken tequila lime pasta is everything. When get a little coastal, I would take my bestie for brunch and drinks at none other than Crushed! The mimosa flight is always a must, personal favorite is their lavender flavor. But, also love Morning Glory for a good brunch. For a little more aesthetic and coffee, either Spill the Beans or S3 Coffee Bar are my go-to’s. But my ultimate favorite coffee is Revolution Roasters in Oceanside! For dinner and cocktails, we’re definitely making a stop at El Prez for the rooftop views or Raised by Wolves for a little speakeasy vibe. Anything in Little Italy for dinner is never a bad choice either. And of course, we’re hanging out beach side all week long and hitting some hikes along with a stop at Balboa Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the support of my friends and family, I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today. There are a selected few that have really stuck with me and paved the way for me, starting with my sister Kelsey. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a sister and business partner in one. Without her creativity and risk to start Brikmoda Creative Firm, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to create Brikmoda Social, and that I’m forever thankful for. To the friends and loved ones, you know who you are, that continuously stuck with me and believed in me, thank you. My constant drive comes from those around me that push and motivate me on the days I need it the most, and couldn’t be more appreciative for the support I’ve received since starting this adventure.
