We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, can you talk us a bit about why you love what you do?
I love practicing speech-language pathology because it is a wonderful blend of art and science that allows me to help children and their families navigate communication challenges. What I love most is empowering parents and providing tools to facilitate language throughout daily life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Andrews Speech and Language provides home based speech and language therapy to North County residents of San Diego serving children ranging from birth up to 18 years of age. Because each client has a unique set of communication needs and interests, therapy services are individualized and custom to each child. As Andrews Speech and Language goes into its third year anniversary, I am very thankful for the support of family and friends that have uplifted me throughout the years. Like so many other businesses, navigating the COVID-19 shelter in place requirement has been the biggest challenge to date. We have transitioned to providing teletherapy services for all clients in order to maintain consistency of care while also adhering to new safety standards. Providing therapy via a new modality on short notice was initially a challenge; however, the flexibility of my clients and the support of family has allowed us to make lemonade from some very sour lemons. I would like others to know that Andrews Speech and Language is committed to providing effective, evidenced based speech and language therapy for your child.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
San Diego has so many fantastic sights to see that we would need a mix of tourist attractions and some downtime on the beach. I would take my friend to visit the San Diego Zoo and then head to Little Italy for some delicious coffee and shopping around the local Italian Markets. As we made our way up north, we would stop by Mission Beach to take in the sights. One of my favorite spots is Fletcher Cove park and beach in Solana Beach; we would grab some dinner from Pizza Nova and enjoy it while watching the sunset. For breakfast, we would head to Cardiff for some VG Donuts and Bump coffee. Lourdes Mexican Food would be a delicious lunch spot. If the visit was in the spring, we would definitely need to stop by the Carlsbad Flower Fields. For some extra relaxation, we would head to Torrey Pines state beach, and if we were feeling adventurous, we would hike along the trail overlooking the bluff.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to my dear friend and mentor, Nori Simpson, owner and speech-language pathologist of Simpson Speech and Language. Nori encouraged me to start my own private practice, guided me on all the intricacies of setting up a small business, and has been a constant support system for all questions related to business and clinical practice. She is not only a fabulous speech-language pathologist and business owner, but she empowers others around her to thrive and succeed. She is someone I look up to on a personal and professional level.
