We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Brio Skin Studio started because I had my own struggles with my skin, and what I really wanted was someone who would partner with me — not just sell me products or give me a facial, but actually help guide me. I wanted someone to tell me, ‘These are the products you need, these are the treatments that will help, and here’s how we’re going to stay consistent and get your skin healthier together.’

I realized a lot of people were looking for that same experience. Skin affects your confidence so much, and it also changes through every stage of life. I’ve been an esthetician since I was 19 years old – 20 years, so I’ve personally experienced acne, aging, pregnancy, postpartum changes — all of it. Because of that, I can really relate to my clients and understand that skincare is not one-size-fits-all.

My goal with Brio was to create a space where people from all walks of life feel supported, educated, and cared for. I want to be a resource for women and men who just want to feel confident when they wake up in the morning. Sometimes it’s about improving someone’s skin, but a lot of times it’s also about helping them feel better about themselves. I really wanted control of that environment so Brio Skin Studio was born.

What should our readers know about your business?
Brio Skin Studio is a boutique-style skincare studio focused on results-driven but relaxing treatments. What really sets us apart is the personalized experience. I never wanted clients to feel like just another appointment on the schedule. I wanted people to feel heard, educated, cared for, and confident that someone was truly invested in helping them reach their skin goals.

Getting to where I am today definitely was not easy. Like most small business owners, there were a lot of moments of uncertainty, financial stress, trial and error, and learning as I went. I wear a lot of hats; provider, business owner, marketer, content creator, customer service, bookkeeping, all while balancing family life too. There were times I questioned myself, especially during slower seasons or when trying to grow in a very competitive industry.

What helped me overcome those challenges was consistency and genuinely caring about people. I focused on building real relationships, continuing education, creating a strong client experience, and staying authentic to who I am instead of trying to be like everyone else online. Over time, word of mouth, trust, and consistency really built the business.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t happen overnight, and perfection is not required to start. I’ve learned that being genuine and building trust matters more than trying to appear perfect. I’ve also learned that confidence comes from experience and from continuing to show up even when things feel uncertain.

What I want people to know about me and my brand is that Brio was built from a very personal place. I know what it feels like to struggle with your skin and your confidence, and I know how life-changing it can feel to finally have support and guidance. I want every person who walks through my door to feel comfortable, cared for, and more confident than when they came in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d probably start the trip with breakfast at Swami’s Cafe Oceanside and then spend the day at the beach because that’s honestly one of the best parts about living in North County San Diego. I think what makes this area so special is that it has a relaxed beach-town vibe but there’s still so much to do.

For the week, I’d mix in a little bit of everything — beach days, good food, cute local spots, and some fun nightlife. I’d definitely take them to walk around downtown Oceanside, visit the pier, and maybe rent bikes and cruise along The Strand. Sunset drinks at the Mission Pacific Roof Top bar is one of my favorite places to end the day.

I’d also take them to Carlsbad Village because I love all the little shops, restaurants, and coffee spots there. We’d probably do dinner at places like or Nick’s, or more relaxed at Hennessy’s, and just hang out. One day would definitely include a spa/self-care day at Brio Skin Studio because skincare and wellness are such a huge part of my life and something I genuinely love sharing with people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Scott, who has always supported me, encouraged me to keep going, celebrated my successes and held it together at home with our three kids while I work the weekends at Brio Skin Studio.
