Meet Krista Baker | SEO & Creative Content Strategist | Founder of Hire a Momma

We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krista, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
One of the most important things I’ve done as a parent has been building my own business so I could create a life with more flexibility and presence. I wanted to be there for my children, not just for the big milestones and exciting moments, but also for the everyday moments and the times they needed me most when they were sick or struggling.
Starting my business wasn’t just about creating a career I loved; it was about designing a lifestyle that aligned with my values as a mother. Along the way, my children have had a front-row seat to what it looks like to pursue a dream, take risks, ask for help, delegate, learn from mistakes, and continue growing.
It certainly hasn’t always been easy, but I’m grateful they’ve been able to see that success doesn’t mean doing everything alone. And I hope the example I’ve set has shown them that it’s possible to build a life and career you’re passionate about while staying present for the people who matter most to you.

What should our readers know about your business?
Hire a Momma wasn’t something I set out to build from the beginning, it was the result of many life experiences that shaped both my perspective and my purpose.
After graduating from college, I began my career in the corporate oil and gas industry. While I learned valuable skills during that time, a series of life-changing experiences, including the loss of my brother, shifted my priorities and perspective. I made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom and focus on raising my family.
During those years at home, I continued pursuing my love for writing and communication, contributing content to magazines, blogs, and online publications. Eventually, I felt called back into education and became a virtual charter school teacher. Teaching was incredibly rewarding, and in 2021, I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year.
As time went on, I found myself increasingly concerned about the state of the public education system and wanting greater flexibility to be present with my own children while they were still young. Around the same time, my husband and I were building our home, and I began to see a growing need in our community, both for talented moms who wanted meaningful work-from-home opportunities and for local business owners who needed support growing their businesses.
That’s when Hire a Momma was born.
From the very beginning, the mission has been simple: to help bring moms back to the center of their homes by creating flexible work opportunities that allow them to contribute professionally while remaining present for their families. At the same time, we provide high-quality virtual assistant and marketing support services to local businesses that need reliable, strategic help.
Over the years, the business has evolved significantly. I became certified in SEO, expanded my expertise as a creative content strategist, and developed a specialty in Google Business Profile optimization and local search marketing. Today, Hire a Momma helps businesses improve their online visibility, strengthen their digital presence, and get found by more customers on Google and Google Maps.
What sets us apart is that we’re not a large agency built on volume. We’re a boutique, relationship-driven business built on integrity, honesty, creativity, and genuine care for our clients’ success. We take the time to understand the people behind the business and create marketing strategies that are both effective and authentic.
One of the things I am most proud of is that Hire a Momma is fulfilling the mission it was created for. Today, I have two incredible women working alongside me, and together we serve a growing roster of Oklahoma businesses. Watching talented women use their gifts while maintaining flexibility for their families is every bit as rewarding as helping our clients grow.
The journey certainly hasn’t been easy. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced uncertainty, setbacks, changing technology, and moments of self-doubt. But I’ve learned that growth comes from being willing to adapt, continue learning, and trust the process. I’ve learned that you don’t have to do everything yourself, that relationships matter more than transactions, and that success is built through consistency, service, and a genuine desire to help others.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about me and the Hire a Momma brand, it’s that we’re about much more than marketing. We believe businesses should be built around people, not the other way around. Behind every business owner is a family, a dream, and a story. Our mission is to help those stories be seen, heard, and found while creating opportunities that strengthen both businesses and families along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit Oklahoma for a week, I’d want them to experience what makes Oklahoma special, not just the places, but the people.
We’d start by getting out into the countryside because you can’t truly appreciate Oklahoma without seeing a breathtaking Oklahoma sunset stretching across the horizon. We’d spend time driving through small towns, meeting local business owners, exploring charming downtown districts, and eating our way across the state. Oklahoma has some incredible food, from amazing barbecue to some of the best fried chicken you’ll ever have. One stop would definitely be Eischen’s, an Oklahoma institution.
Of course, we’d spend a day or two in downtown Oklahoma City. We’d explore the Myriad Botanical Gardens, check out the underground tunnel system, ride the downtown streetcar, and experience the energy around the arena where the Oklahoma City Thunder play. We’d enjoy some of the fantastic local restaurants, catch live music, explore the Paseo District, the Asian District, Midtown and take in the vibrant atmosphere that continues to make Oklahoma City one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.
Next, we’d head to Tulsa, which has a completely different personality. Tulsa’s Art Deco architecture is absolutely stunning, and I’d want them to experience the beauty and history of the city. We’d visit the Philbrook Museum of Art, explore downtown, and spend an evening at Cain’s Ballroom enjoying live music in one of Oklahoma’s most iconic venues.
For the outdoor portion of the trip, we’d spend time at Tenkiller Lake and Beavers Bend. Both showcase the natural beauty that surprises so many visitors. We’d go hiking, spend time on the water, relax by the lake, and soak in the scenery. Depending on the season, we might go horseback riding, boating, or simply enjoy the peacefulness that makes these destinations so special.
And if they’re up for a little adventure, I’d introduce them to some of Oklahoma’s more unexpected experiences, from ATV riding in the sand dunes to exploring hidden gems throughout the state.
The truth is that Oklahoma is one of the country’s best-kept secrets. We have vibrant cities, beautiful lakes, rolling countryside, incredible music, rich history, and outdoor adventures for every type of traveler. (And I must also add a large list of entrepreneurs.)
But what I love most about Oklahoma isn’t a destination at all, it’s the people. Oklahomans are some of the most welcoming, hardworking, and genuine people you’ll ever meet. Pair that with great food, beautiful sunsets, and a strong sense of community, and it’s hard not to fall in love with this state.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to thank God. Having Him at the center of my life and allowing Him to guide my steps has shaped every part of my journey. He has blessed me with more opportunities than I could have ever imagined and taught me lessons that have helped me grow both personally and professionally. I am incredibly grateful for His guidance, provision, and faithfulness throughout every season of my life.
Second, I want to thank my husband. I would not be where I am today without his unwavering support. He made it possible for me to stay home with and homeschool our children, especially during their early years, and when I decided to start a business, he supported that dream wholeheartedly. Whether it was helping with the house, cooking meals, caring for our children, talking through business challenges, or simply encouraging me when things felt hard, he has always been there. He has been my biggest cheerleader from day one—even liking every social media post, no matter how cheesy it might have been.
I also want to thank my best friend, our family and friends, who have encouraged me, believed in me, and supported me along the way. And of course, my children too! They have been part of this journey from the very beginning. Their encouragement, love, and belief in me have motivated me more than they know.
The truth is that none of us accomplish anything entirely on our own. I am incredibly grateful for the people God has placed in my life who have loved me, supported me, challenged me, and helped me become the person I am today.
