Meet Jodi Tompkins, PsyD | Licensed Clinical Psychologist & Creator of the Identity Process™

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jodi Tompkins, PsyD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jodi, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success as doing what fuels my body, energizes my mind, captivates my heart, and makes my spirit come alive. External validation and appreciation are rewarding, but success is most meaningfully measured by internal satisfaction; knowing I am doing what feels most authentic and meaningful for me.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the creator of Living Well Psychology and the Identity Process™. I am passionate about empowering people of all ages to grow and thrive through the various seasons of their lives. I specialize in guiding individuals on a journey of self-discovery through integrating heart, mind, body, and spirit to cultivate meaningful and authentic lives. I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in the mental health field, but after graduating with my undergraduate degree in Child Development & Family Relations, I got married and chose to spend my time at home raising our five children. Once my kids were older, I returned to school to pursue my dream and completed my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and then my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology.
My doctoral dissertation integrated my years of clinical practice and personal experience to create the Identity Process™, which is a program for individuals to discover a deeper understanding of their unique identity and grow in self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-confidence. The Identity Process™ is offered in several formats, including individual sessions, 10-week groups, and weekend retreats. For me, therapy isn’t about “creating a better version” of oneself, it is about “discovering a truer version” of oneself. To help people become fulfilled and empowered through self-discovery and authentic living fills my life with deep joy and satisfaction and I am grateful for the opportunity to share the Identity Process™ with others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend all around La Jolla, which is my happy place. I grew up visiting San Diego every summer from Phoenix, Arizona and I dreamed of living in La Jolla someday. I would take them for walks on the beach of La Jolla Shores to Scripps Pier, check out the restaurants and shops along Avenida de la Playa, maybe enjoy a massage, the restaurant, and pool at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, and take a hike at Torrey Pines State Park. If the timing was right I would take them to the Tchaikovsky Spectacular at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, one of my favorite San Diego annual events.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout is to my incredible family who are my greatest source of love, support, and encouragement and my biggest cheerleaders. My husband of 41 years and our five children, our sons-in-law, and our grandchildren provide me with a wealth of insight and wisdom as they navigate their own personal lives and families with such depth and beauty. They teach me more than I have ever taught them!
