We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherill Quinn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherill, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Change doesn’t come without taking risks. There have been a lot of times in my life where I realized that I wasn’t content with where my life was going. Even if I was happy, something was missing. The best decision I ever made was taking the leap to pursue my dream career in acting and storytelling. Uncertainty is a constant, but I would never feel complete if I didn’t take that risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, but it took a long time to figure out my medium of choice. I tried writing fiction, learning an instrument, photography, etc., but nothing really stuck. When I found acting, it was like a lightbulb went off. I thought, “This is something I can do for the rest of my life”. It hasn’t been easy. The industry is unpredictable by nature, and obviously it’s only gotten more so in the last few years. Fortunately, I’ve never been good at waiting for things to change, so I decided to take things into my own hands. Last year, I wrote, directed and starred in a short film titled When Fighting Monsters. When Fighting Monsters is murder mystery about a bereaved detective struggling to make sense of his daughter’s untimely death. I’ve always loved this genre, and I’m both proud and excited to be able to share this film with other mystery fans. When Fighting Monsters will premiere in September of this year.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them Sutro Baths in San Francisco. It gets cold, but I love when the fog comes in and makes everything look a little haunted. The Kona Club in Oakland is also one of my favorite spots to take friends when they visit. You can never go wrong with a good tiki drink!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many incredible individuals to thank, but if I were to choose one person right now, it would be my first acting coach, Shari Carlson. She told me straight up, “You have to work hard in this business. Otherwise, you’ll never make it.” I took that to heart and have been working hard ever since.
