Meet Reinaldo

We had the good fortune of connecting with Reinaldo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reinaldo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Hello, well the process that has led me to decide to create my own company has possibly been a consequence of having had many experiences working for other people and in different areas, in all these jobs I did not get to feel one hundred percent satisfied because the creative part that is intrinsic to me could not develop it.
After many years working for other people and in different areas I have always felt the need to develop my ideas and my creative capacity to 100%, not being able to do so has become over time a burden, a problem, I have always felt that something was missing, that I was incomplete and in the hope of finding that something is that I am on this path.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, it has been a long process, with obstacles and complications that surely have not ended. I began studying Fine Arts in Venezuela was a great experience and it was there in fact where I had my first contact with sculpture, I had great teachers there, after those years I went to Italy to continue my studies in Carrara I was lucky to spend about five years there studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, it was a magical place where I found the sculptural stone carving, I learned from it and this experience definitely marked a before and after in my way of working. I believe that the handling of these techniques brought me closer to an artisanal way of doing, and I discovered in the carving that I was comfortable with this way of doing, that I identified myself with this way of working and creating. And of course I was enchanted forever with the wonder of the transformation, of being able to transform the stone little by little with my hands, to create by roughing, it is like a discovery, that enchanted me, it marked me forever. After those years I went to Spain to Valencia where I currently live and here I had to dedicate myself to other trades to make a living, among other things I dedicated myself to graphic design which was also another great experience.
It has been the sum of these disciplines and the experiences I have had with them that have brought me to this point and to be able to merge these different ways of creating by developing a different product that contains a respect for the materials, and that cares about the design, a union of disciplines in functionality. Objects of high aesthetic and functional value made with traditional techniques and materials, this may be my value proposition.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well the city of Valencia where I live is a wonderful and very attractive place there are many things to see and know. The first thing to do is to get lost in the center of the city in the historic center visit the Cathedral and get lost walking through its streets , There are also several museums that is interesting to include in this itinerary , the Museum of Contemporary Art , the Museum of illustration , crafts , all are interesting places to visit and ceramics. It is also essential to visit the gardens of the old Turia riverbed is a garden that runs through the city and besides many other things is in it the Museum of Arts and Sciences, a spectacular building designed by Calatrava, an emblem of the city. cValencia also has a very good climate, it is interesting to visit its beaches and also some rivers around, there are towns with very interesting landscapes such as Chulilla, Montanejos, Altea, and many others towards Castellón and then towards Alicante and in all of them you can eat very well, I would take my friend visitor to eat a good Valencian paella in Palmar and surely to have a few beers in one of the hundreds of bars that are around the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
without a doubt the person I have to thank the most is my family, first of all my father and my mother who always supported me and were enthusiastic about my decisions and my interests, and always encouraged me to pursue my dreams and professionalize myself, and then of course my partner Natalia Figueroa because she has always accompanied me and has always known how important it is for me to create, probably because she is also a creative person, and of course my daughter, who reminds me every day that it is worth it.
