We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Odell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, how does your business help the community?
Personally, training has helped me overcome many adversities in my life. From building confidence in sports to coping with daily stress, and now preparing for a fulfilling life. So, before I get started, I want to thank all my coaches, friends, family, and coworkers for all your love and support. Each one has taught me something valuable I carry with me on my journey.

When I was younger, I hated training! It seemed like my coach was trying to kill me. Then I had that “ah ha” moment! Maybe my coach was preparing me for the next season of my life because I feel confident running out on the big field. So, each year from middle school to college, I came into each season with a reason to be on that field with my teammates. Those experiences taught me to push my limits and trust the process. Don’t worry; this is a lifelong lesson we are all trying to figure out!

Now, present-day work, life, and relationship stress can stack my plate higher than the ceiling, creating overwhelming thoughts. Since exercising on my own, going to therapy, and talking it out with some very close friends of mine, we concluded that we are all on our own time. Sometimes, the journey to self-love and care will happen when we want to change. So I had to find what made me feel better about myself, and it didn’t take me long to figure out that exercise and a strong community I can trust were very important. Whether it was surfing, running, hiking, working out, etc. I had to do something that made me present. So, I learned to get relaxation out of being in the now and exercising my body.

Thinking about the bigger picture, I want to do future activities outdoors and go on holidays with my loved ones and family members. Therefore, I must prepare my body for the next season of life. I want to be present with myself and others doing the things we love together. So why do coaches, trainers, and group trainers help the community? I believe they help prepare us for the next chapter in our story and offer a safe space to train for those moments. Now get up and move around!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love helping my clients, athletes, working professionals, and the day-to-day person lift pain-free and achieve their health goals. Over the past 10 years, I’ve helped clients from the ages of 20-75 achieve weight loss of up to 30 lbs, helped them build muscle after injuries and surgeries, and helped them perform advanced exercises for competitions.

What sets me apart is that I’ve learned from some incredible teachers, mentors, and friends who gave me incredible insight on how to help people physically and mentally in the gym. This community that I’m apart of allowed me to gain access to a wide range of training, recovering, and meal prepping techniques that truly work.

This path is hard, and I’m still hungry to learn more because I truly care about how to help people live an active lifestyle. I want to listen and ask questions about the root of an issue and then find ways for them to train for their next stage or adventure in their life. For every injury, obstacle, or pivot I wanted to make in my life, I had to ask for help. So I make sure I can be that support and resource for the next person.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned over this journey is to adjust my sails with every wind, weather, and current. Either I can fight it, learn to adapt, or move on. Therefore, I try my best to keep an open mind about every situation that comes in my life. We are all battling our oceans, and I want to help them get through those storms and sail towards land (goals).

For a good chunk of my life, I’ve struggled in school, battled depressive tendencies, and had a difficult time believing in myself. With proper support from my village, I’m improving my quality of life. I want to service my community by being that support system in the gym, and for my loved ones outside of the gym.
