We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Ancira and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Helen, what role has risk played in your life or career?
A few years ago, I might have said that I wasn’t a risk-taker—that the idea of stepping into the unknown was intimidating. But over time, as I’ve built relationships, expanded my knowledge, and gained confidence, I’ve learned that taking risks is essential for growth.

Now, I embrace challenges with a daring spirit because I know that every risk carries the potential for success—or a valuable lesson. In the past few years, risk-taking has become a natural part of my journey with Belaroca Jewelry.

Some risks have led to significant achievements, while others have been learning experiences, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Belaroca Jewelry was born from my deep passion for storytelling through jewelry—pieces that aren’t just accessories but meaningful, personal connections.

I founded my business in April 2014, inspired by my fascination with naturally shaped gemstones and minerals. Each stone carries a unique history, a perfect imperfection that I celebrate in my designs. Unlike mass-produced jewelry, my pieces honor the organic beauty of the gems, ensuring that every creation is unique.

What sets Belaroca Jewelry apart is this commitment to authenticity. I don’t alter the natural forms of the stones; instead, I frame them in 24kt Electro-Formed gold over high-quality brass, silver, or Rhodium finishes, allowing their raw elegance to shine.

The consistency in craftsmanship extends to the chains and settings, creating a cohesive yet distinctive collection that blends nature with sophistication.

One of the things I am most proud of is the emotional connection my customers form with my pieces. Over time,

I saw a beautiful trend emerge—clients wanted to repurpose cherished heirlooms or create meaningful jewelry for life’s special moments. That led me to expand my work, offering custom designs that transform sentimental treasures into modern heirlooms. Being part of these deeply personal stories is what excites me the most.

The journey hasn’t been easy. Like any entrepreneur, I faced challenges—from learning the intricacies of running a business to ensuring that my craftsmanship met the highest standards.

There are moments of doubt, but my unwavering passion keeps me going. I overcome challenges by staying adaptable, continuously learning, and, most importantly, listening to my clients. Their feedback and trust have shaped Belaroca into what it is today.

My biggest lesson is that authenticity and passion are non-negotiable. When you create from the heart and stay true to your vision, people connect with your work on a deeper level.

Ultimately, Belaroca Jewelry is more than a brand—it celebrates individuality, personal stories, and the beauty of imperfection. I want the world to know that when they wear a Belaroca piece, they wear something unique, crafted with intention and soul. My mission is to continue creating jewelry that complements an outfit and tells a story—your story.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want to give her the full San Diego experience—a mix of history, culture, nature, and incredible food!

We’d start in Coronado, soaking in the beauty of the iconic Hotel del Coronado, walking along the pristine beaches, and maybe grabbing a drink at the Sun Deck while watching the sunset. From there, we’d head to Chicano Park, where vibrant murals tell powerful stories of history and resilience.

No trip to San Diego is complete without a day at the world-famous San Diego Zoo, followed by a peaceful stroll around Balboa Park—exploring its gardens and museums and maybe catching a show at The Old Globe Theatre.

Midweek, we’d start heading north along Highway 101 one of the most scenic drives in California. First stop: La Jolla, where we’d visit the Cove to see the sea lions, take in the stunning ocean views, and maybe even kayak in the caves.

From there, we’d continue up to Del Mar, stopping for lunch with an ocean view, and then on to Encinitas, where we could explore the laid-back surf culture and visit the beautiful gardens at the
Self-Realization Fellowship.

Of course, food would be a huge part of the trip! I’d take them to some of my favorite spots—fresh seafood at Point Loma Seafoods, authentic tacos at a local gem in Barrio Logan, brunch at Great Maple, and a fun dinner at Born & Raised or a delicious Italian dinner, where there are so many restaurants to choose from for a special night out.

And for an authentic San Diego experience, we’d have to hit a rooftop bar in the Gaslamp or a speakeasy for a unique cocktail night.

By the end of the week, my friend would see how diverse San Diego is and feel the magic of what makes this city so unique. Whether it’s the beach, the food, the art, or just the laid-back yet vibrant energy, there’s never a dull moment here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started my business by re-selling jewelry, and while I loved curating designs from other artists, I always knew I wanted to create my own exclusive line. Coming from an artsy family, creativity runs in our blood—my mother and sister design beautiful wire-wrapped jewelry, and their work has always inspired me.

When I first began designing, I wasn’t entirely sure of my direction, but one special person indeed encouraged me—Lala, my friend in the jewelry business. She always reminded me, “Helen, you got this. Just start choosing your gemstones and chains and design away!” Her belief in me gave me the confidence to take the leap and create from the heart.

I’m also incredibly grateful for my close friends, who have supported me every step of the way. Their encouragement and admiration for my work have meant the world to me. This journey wouldn’t be the same without the love, mentorship, and support of those around me.
