We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Yeager and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I remember asking as a child what my purpose is in life — a question I would continue to reflect on during my yoga teacher training and as a business owner.

I was first drawn to yoga and meditation as a way to manage stress and relieve anxiety in college. Through these practices, I was able to regulate my nervous system, connect to my breath and slow down my thoughts. I knew from that moment I wanted to dive deeper and eventually share these techniques with others.

While working in the corporate world, I started teaching for companies, gyms, studios and community centers to help people find a sense of calm. I eventually expanded my services to include sound healing, Reiki and life coaching for a holistic approach to healing.

When I moved to San Diego, I began hosting my own events and working with private clients. After my daughter was born, it became clear that I would no longer be able to split my time between my business and the corporate world while also spending time with my family. I also learned how important it was for me to practice self-care and replenish my energy as I cared for a newborn.

As I began healing postpartum, I felt called to help others calm their nervous system and connect to their purpose. Not long after, Expand Beyond was born — intuitive wellness coaching and practices to heal, grow, transform and take flight.

Fully leaning into my own business has helped me align with my purpose, build a flexible schedule so I can spend time with my family, create abundance and help more people live a vibrant and fulfilling life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The techniques I use to coach clients are the same tools that have helped me get out of “fight or flight” mode, listen to my intuition and build a business that lights me up inside.

With a degree from the Haas School of Business and 10 years in the corporate world leading partnerships and marketing, I was able to develop the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen to launch my own wellness company.

Yet the experience that shaped my business the most was my own wellness journey. I’ve felt the weight of anxiety from pushing myself too hard and striving for perfection in college. I’ve experienced “dis-ease” in my body from being under constant stress as an employee. I’ve been exhausted, lost and uncertain during the sleepless nights of parenthood. I’ve questioned myself during moments of frustration in my business. And I’ve learned valuable lessons and become more resilient from each of these experiences.

With curiosity and authenticity, I help my clients release stress, shift their mindset, rediscover their purpose and take action on their dreams. Each session is unique because each person is unique. I will meet you where you are, create space for you to reflect and celebrate you every step of the way.

I have had the honor of helping corporate leaders expand their impact through nonprofit work, coaches generate new income streams, entrepreneurs establish self-care routines and moms navigate life transitions. I would be honored to support you on your healing journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am grateful to live in the beautiful, sunny city of San Diego with so many hiking trails, unique neighborhoods and delicious restaurants.

Spend a week with me and we would enjoy the fresh air as we explore Annie’s canyon. To unwind, we would visit Trilogy Sanctuary for an aerial yoga class on the rooftop and then stroll to see the sea lions in La Jolla. We would have an adventure at the San Diego Safari Park and have lunch with the zebras. For a delicious dinner, we would go to Little Italy and indulge in homemade pasta and gelato.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my family, who has always encouraged me to invest in learning new healing modalities and build my business. From a young age, my father has been a role model for my work ethic and drive. During times of uncertainty, he has helped me figure out a path forward. My husband has been by my side since my first yoga teacher training and continues to attend my events, brainstorm new ideas and lift me up on hard days. His family has rallied around us as we continue to pursue our dreams.

As a wellness coach, I recognize the importance of mentorship. When I decided to expand my business, I began working with an entrepreneurial coach. Jaden Hummel has helped me overcome roadblocks and envision new possibilities. It can be scary to leave the stability of a nine-to-five, but working with a coach has helped me stay focused on the big picture and find innovative solutions.

I truly believe we are stronger and more creative when we seek support and guidance from loved ones, mentors and coaches.
