We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddie Stenman Andi Supergan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddie Stenman, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I think that owning a flower shop has taught us that taking risks can lead to both challenges and rewards! When we first opened our shop in 2018 of course we knew it was a risk to invest our time, money, energy, basically everything into a business that could have easily failed. That being said, over time we have learned that embracing the challenges and pushing through the tough moments (like a global pandemic!) can lead to growth and evolving from whatever happens along the way!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Floral design, like any other form of art allows for creative freedom. How we design our arrangements, wether they are large or minimalistic, all have a personal touch. Every arrangement that we do is unique to our customer. We don’t have one type of arrangement, we listen to what our customer is looking for and design based off of that! We think that’s one of the biggest ways that set us apart in this competitive market and we are really proud of that. We take the time to go to the flower market twice a week to make sure we are buying fresh florals for our customers, we don’t sell old flowers and our pricing is very fair. Honestly, I don’t think there’s really anything easy about starting a company, especially when you’re 25 & 27, we were so young and maybe a little bit naive. But 6 years into the business and we have not only learned how to set boundaries for ourselves and our business but we have also made our space our own, it is so us and we really love that. We put our all into our business and making sure that our customers are receiving the absolute best we can provide and that is something that we will never stop doing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, fun question! Well we are both HUGE Padres fans, so definitely to Petco Park for a game! The beach would definitely be on the list! La Jolla is so fun to walk around and eat/drink! There are so many fun things to do in San Diego but we would probably avoid the crowded tourists areas and stick to the local spots!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well first of all, we have to shout out our families!! They are our biggest supporters and have been cheering us on since day one. From helping at the shop, to helping during holidays with deliveries and clean up. We are beyond lucky and tell them everyday! We’d also love to shout out our little community, we are located in Scripps Ranch and let me tell you, the way these people love supporting a small business is so heart warming! Our community is the best!
