We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Tobias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melody, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our journey began about seven years ago when my family and I started crafting handmade natural skincare items for our friends and family. The positive feedback and word of mouth were significant motivators, highlighting the potential for our products to appeal to a broader audience.

We gradually expanded our reach by participating in farmers’ markets and swap meets across Orange County. This allowed us to connect directly with customers who appreciated our products and our stories. The personal interactions reinforced our belief in the value and uniqueness of what we offered.

Our family background includes generations of inventors, herbalists, apothecaries, storytellers, and spiritual healers who served their communities. This rich heritage played a crucial role in shaping our vision. The pivotal moment came on July 2nd, 2022, when we experienced a collective spiritual awakening. This transformative night changed our perspective and direction, leading us to conduct spiritual healing sessions and create spiritual items for our clients.

In the winter of 2023, we officially launched We Are Sacred Roots/Raíces Sagradas. Our aim is to be a trusted source of holistic goods and services that encompass body, mind and soul while honoring both our long-time clients and new customers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are Sacred Roots, a family-owned Holistic and Metaphysical Shop. We live a life of intention and service to our community and our planet.

Our beginnings were humble. We started at the OCC swap meet with a small table where we sold natural soaps and oils that we made by hand. People were very supportive and loved our products, and they also resonated with the spiritual guidance and advice we offered at our stall. They would enthusiastically find us every weekend to buy products and refer friends and family which are referrals we still have to this day. We had no funds to set up a shop back then, but we gained the necessary funds bit by bit over time until we had the opportunity to open our own place in 2023. Opening the shop was one of our biggest accomplishments and was possible through hard work and everyone’s support. Our shop is a place for everyone; we have what we say is “a little something for everyone” from all walks of life and spirituality. We have built a great collection of beauty, wellness, holistic, and spiritual items and services at our shop and plan to continue growing this into a Holistic Wellness Center for the community.

Most importantly, we are here to remind ourselves, you, and the world that we are all sacred roots, interconnected. We must nurture and continue to grow and spread love, light, and healing to help ourselves and others on their journeys in this physical world and beyond.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best places around Orange County are always the magical hidden corners that don’t show up on your regular yelp recommendations.

You have really great tacos with a huge collection of delicious Salsas at “Tacos Los Cholos” in Anaheim.
The arboretum in Fullerton is a free

We are all so lucky to be living in such a diverse place as Orange County that really, there’s something to do for everyone.
Garden Grove and Buena Park are full of authentic and family-owned Korean restaurants for any time you are craving for something more than KBBQ. Cham Sut Gol in Garden Grove has been a community favorite.

In Westminster you can find great Vietnamese, one of the classic is a Viet-Chinese Dim Sum fusion place called Seafood Cove.

Anaheim has really bomb tacos, Taco Los Cholos would be one I recommend that has a great collection of Salsas and good quality meat.

And Santa Ana, really anywhere you go is full of rich and authentic Latinx places for everyone though I would recommend the only Guatemalan Restaurant/Bakery called La Chapina, which is a family owned food joint that was been here for decades.

But I recommend for you to take the chance in any city and explore the hole in the wall restaurants and business and any small mom-and-pop shops out there, because there is magic hidden there waiting to be discovered. The people are the heart of Orange County, and their spirits reside the strongest in the places overlooked. Reviews are great, but adventure is better.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my first spiritual teacher, my mother. Thank you for continuously watering our roots. To my sister Jade, my second spiritual teacher, thank you for everything you have taught us. And to my partner Jason, who is our grounding rock, so happy to have meet you in this lifetime. Truly, this shop and business wouldn’t function without all of you.

Thank you to all our family, friends, and clients, both old and new, who have been with us since the very beginning. Your support has allowed us to flourish, and your presence and experiences drive our spirit.

May we continue to be seeds planted along your journey, so when you look back at the end of your time here on earth and see all the seeds that have sprouted into flowers and trees, may We Are Sacred Roots be one of them.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all!

And lastly, thank you to our Spiritual Helpers, Angels, Guides. God, thank you, thank you, thank you.
