We had the good fortune of connecting with Johan Engman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Johan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It mainly came from a desire to work for myself, to control my own destiny. If I worked hard and smart I would reap the benefits, if I didn’t I’d suffer the consequences.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A number of years ago I set up a 501c3 non profit organization. Each restaurant donates money (a portion of sales from particular menu items) to the non profit. The non profit uses this money to give back. Our goal is to have a positive impact in each community we have a restaurant in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Start the day off with a Torrey Pines Hike, head to Mission Valley Breakfast Company for a late breakfast, then ride bikes in PB
