Meet Disco Dollie | Drag Queen & Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Disco Dollie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Disco, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Thats is actually alot of work! Drag looks fun and to some extent pretty easy… and yes it is fun… but it is hard, its expensive, its mentally draining.
As a drag queen you are responsible for everything. Your makeup, your outfits, your wigs, making sure you know your music, and choreography. Dont forget hat you are entertaining the crowd, responding to your environment and everyone around you.
It can be tough to juggle everything and make sure you are also having fun.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I’ve been doing this for almost 26 years. I started at 18 and have lived and traveled all over the world and taken all those experiences and put them into my drag. I have always been more of a gender bending queen / club kid at heart and that has always set me apart. I started doing bearded drag back in 2003, WAY before anyone even knew what that was LOL. But for me, it was just another way to express my art form.
I have been fortunate not to have faced many challenges in my journey and I know that is not typical and not many can say that so I am very grateful every day that I have been able to do what I love on my terms. My family has been very supportive, even tho it did take awhile for my parents to come around. I grew up in the church and they were not too happy when i told them about the drag. But now we are very open about it and ask for pictures and want to know how my shows are going. I am very lucky.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, being gay in San Diego there’s only 1 place to go! Thats Hillcrest! Hillcrest is the LGBTQ+ district here and its huge! filled with bars and restaurants and little shops there is always something to do. Urban Mos is the place to go for all the best drag shows and theme nights, strong drinks, and great food so that’s definitely a great place to go hang out. San Diego is filled with amazing neighborhoods and TONs of things to do but for the gays… Hillcrest is the best.
San Diego is also known for its beaches, and in SD we also have the largest nude beach in the country! Blacks Beach is a must-go for anyone, straight or gay when they come to San Diego.
Balboa Park is filled with museums, gardens, running trails and dog parks so its a great place to go and hang out in the grass, play volleyball with friends or stroll the grounds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well, my friends and fellow Drag sisters have always been a source of support and inspiration over the 26 years I have been doing this. But, for the last 5 years my partner, Luis has been my ride or die. He helps me so much with everything from picture editing, music mixes, videos and just being my biggest support and fan.
