We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Davidson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work-life balance wasn’t a priority for me early in my career because I was so focused on getting things started. However, over time, I’ve come to realize that balance is crucial for maintaining momentum, especially in the music industry. There’s only so much you can work 20-plus hours on projects before it starts affecting your health and well-being.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a DJ and music producer since I was around 15. My career began during a time when analog and digital technologies were constantly competing. DJs using vinyl often criticized the rise of digital DJing, which was gaining popularity. Teaming up with a group of friends from high school, we learned various DJing techniques, including beat matching, double-dropping, and scratching, both analog and digital. This eventually led me to music production. By the mid to late-2000s, breaking out as a DJ without production skills became increasingly difficult. The music industry is incredibly challenging, and I’m always evolving and learning.
Azlan represents more than just another music artist or DJ; it signifies a revolution in sound and storytelling. Azlan’s music breaks traditional boundaries, blending cultural influences and musical styles to create a unique and immersive experience. My project’s fusion of world instruments with Drum & Bass music in the genre of World Drum & Bass is groundbreaking. Azlan’s music offers a fresh perspective by incorporating elements from diverse cultures and musical traditions. Furthermore, my music isn’t just for entertainment; it tells stories and conveys emotions that resonate deeply with listeners. Through carefully crafted compositions, Azlan’s music sparks imagination and introspection. In essence, Azlan pushes boundaries, breaks stereotypes, and revolutionizes how we experience sound, representing diversity, creativity, and storytelling converging into something extraordinary.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my friends and family who have supported me on this journey. There are too many people to name individually, but their guidance, support, and intuition have been instrumental in my success. Thank you, everyone!
