Meet Jerson Rivas | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerson Rivas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerson, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was a little kid, music has guided me through life. It all began at the age of three when my eyes were fixated on Edgar Garcia – our church drummer whose band Letras Rojas left an indelible impression on me. Inspired by his talent and passion for drums, I set out to follow in his footsteps which led to formal training in music from the tender age of seven under tutelage from not just my brother’s friends but also directly with Edgar himself as he graciously assumed mentorship over time.
The challenge to learn guitar from my brother in 2018 was a turning point, opening up new dimensions in my musical understanding. This expanded further when I joined the high school orchestra, delving into viola, songwriting, and music theory.
College provided opportunities to jam and perform with fellow musicians; however, it was figures like professor King Britt, friend Teddy Moisa and bandmate Arion Starks who motivated me towards a career in music by demonstrating how it can connect, inspire and transform people along the way.
Music has become more than just a hobby for me – it’s been my anchor, comforting and guiding me through the toughest times of my life. Whenever I’m behind the drums or playing guitar, everything else fades away until all that remains is this pure moment in time. People might have different beliefs, but for me music is one of the purest ways to connect with God. I do it not for fame, or glory, but to honor his name. For me music is not about personal fulfillment, it is a way to express the deepest thoughts of the mind, and the true feelings of the heart. It is a way to reach people, and change their lives. Music is such a powerful force that we often underestimate.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music is a fusion of diverse influences, from the rhythmic complexity of latin rhythms to the soul-stirring melodies of classical music, all filtered through a modern lens. What sets me apart is this blend of genres and instruments, coupled with a narrative-driven approach to music. Each piece is a chapter in a larger story, designed to evoke emotions and provoke thought.
I’m particularly proud of my ability to connect with audiences, creating shared moments of understanding and feeling. This connection is what excites me most, and it’s at the heart of my upcoming projects. In the next few weeks, I’ll be releasing new music both with my band and as a solo artist. These releases embody my journey and artistic evolution, and I’m thrilled to share them with the world.
Navigating my career hasn’t been easy. Overcoming challenges like finding my unique voice among many talented musicians required relentless dedication. This journey taught me the importance of perseverance, authenticity, and vulnerability in music.
The lessons learned along the way have shaped my approach to art and life. Music, to me, is more than sound—it’s a bridge for communication, healing, and unity. My upcoming releases are a testament to this belief, showcasing my commitment to touching hearts and bringing people together.
I want the world to know that my music is an invitation to experience, feel, and connect. With my brand built on the transformative power of music, I aim to inspire others to pursue their passions and express their true selves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In reflecting on my journey, it’s clear that my path has been profoundly shaped by the generosity, guidance, and support of many. However, there are two individuals whose influence stands out in my musical evolution: Edgar Garcia and my brother, Esteban Rivas.
Edgar, also known as ‘Pibe,’ was who initially sparked my passion for music. As a young child, watching him play drums with effortless grace and passion at our local church, I found my first musical hero. Edgar not only inspired me through his talent but eventually became my mentor and coach. He taught me more than just drumming techniques; he taught me how to connect rhythmically on an emotional level, instilling in me a passion that has become my life’s pursuit.
Esteban, my brother and musical ally, has played a vital role in my artistic evolution. His diverse background in everything from guitar to bel canto singing to music education has imparted immeasurable inspiration and motivation onto me. Prior to recognizing it myself, Esteban noticed the potential within me, causing him to urge me to expand beyond familiar boundaries – teaching myself how not only play guitar but also truly comprehend music on an intellectual level. His confidence never wavered even as he provided unwavering encouragement which was crucial for both personal growth as well as enhancing musician skills over time.
Edgar and Esteban. Your mentoring, unwavering support and belief in my abilities has served as a compass through every step along the way; for this, words are not enough to express my gratitude. This shoutout is more than just recognition – it’s also an opportunity to celebrate your crucial role in shaping who I am today musically speaking. Thank you for being such magnificent inspirations , teachers, and most importantly family within music”
