We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawn Mcilhenney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawn, what inspires you?
Knowledge Inspires me most. People that are knowledgeable on all aspects of the work they do, make me want to learn everything I can about all aspects of our business.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mcilhenney Brewing, a family-owned and -operated craft brewery proudly located in Alpine, California. Founded in 2021 by Shawn, Jamie, Pat, and Val Mcilhenney, we brew all of our beer onsite and offer styles to please every taste. The family has been in the brewing industry for over 20 years. We’ve grown with this industry along the way, and found where we are happy, in the same small brewery we started in. We focus on quality and use the best ingredients. We consider anyone that visits us at our Tasting Room a friend and welcome them to our family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are lucky to have met many great people in the brewing community. San Diego is a hub for great beer created by fantastic brewers. Anyone coming into San Diego would enjoy the coastal drive to Oceanside to enjoy a brew/taco at Craft Coast, then hit up the hoppy concoctions at Burgeon. We have been known to end up in OB at Noodle House 1502 for amazing food and a delicious cocktail, then venture to Pizza Port OB for one last taste of beer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my wife for her continuous support, love and encouragement. And to my dad, whom without, none of this would have been possible.
