Meet Eric Dahl | Host of the Rock & Review with Eric Dahl and Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Dahl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, why did you pursue a creative career?
I didn’t really feel like there was any other choice. My Dad was a weekend musician and my Mom was an Art teacher, so I was always around creative people from a young age. Video content, media and music have provided me with those creative outlets. I find it fascinating to interview Music Artists, Authors, Documentary Producers and Artistic Painters that are related to music and feature them on the Rock & Review each week. I find myself constantly learning and growing as I surround myself with creative minded people and share their stories.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What’s different about the interviews on the Rock & Review is that they are conversations with the artists focused on their music, tours, music gear and their musical creation story. Meaning what got them into music and songwriting and how they have progressed to the point they are at today. The goal is for viewers and fans to come away from the Rock & Review interviews feeling as though they know the artist/band better and they want to hear their music and go see them perform Live in concert and support these artists.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great things to see, do and enjoy food wise and sports in Nashville, TN that is a tall order. Music City is known for Country Music but there is so much more here now. Must visits are the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the National Museum of African American Music, Grand Ole Opry, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. Now let’s talk food. For Hot Chicken Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is my personal favorite, BBQ I recommend Martin’s and Peg Leg Porkers. The Germantown area of Nashville has really expanded with restaurants and some of my favorite’s there include Taco Mamacita, Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint, Butchertown Hall, Rolf and Daughters and 5th & Taylor. For adult beverages you can’t go wrong with Mother’s Ruin, Yee-Haw Brewing Co., Tailgate Brewery, the Bearded Iris and Monday Night Preservation Co. Brewery. At some point you will need coffee here in the south and the ones I frequent include Frothy Monkey, Red Bicycle and the Well. No trip to Nashville would be complete without visiting at least one Music Store. Fortunately, our three most popular guitar emporiums reside on 8th Avenue. Be sure to visit Gruhn Guitars, Rumble Seat and Carter Vintage Guitars.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been blessed with a number of incredible mentors over the years for different facets of my life and career. For music I would like to give a shoutout to my late father Jerry Dahl, who was a bassist, and my first guitar teacher Joe Lowes. Also, my late Jazz & Classical guitar teacher at Southeast Missouri State University, Jerry Richardson, who believed in me. When it comes to Television/Video Content my instructors at SEMO like Herb Taylor and Jim Dufek provided that foundation that I still use today – 40 years into this career. On my books and articles once again my teachers/professors through High School & College really nurtured and taught me the craft of writing. I still enjoy writing everyday whether it is for TV scripts, articles for magazines or my next book. B.B. King deserves credit for being so kind to me when I returned his 80th Birthday Gibson Lucille back in 2009 and giving me permission to write the books “B.B. King’s Lucille and the Loves Before Her.” I’m honored that Mr. King got to hold and see the book in publication before he passed away. All these people, my daughter Taylor, my girlfriend, and other family and close friends helped make me what I am today.
