We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaynie Rhoads and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaynie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always thought it would be fun! About a month ago, I jokingly posted on Twitter that I’d create a record label of my own and sign myself. Then I realized that it could be that easy, and within a day I was able to get the logo designed, purchase the domain and create a website and accompanying social media accounts. The hardest part was making the trip to the County Clerk to register the name, and that took less than an hour. Within what felt like mere moments, Hotcakes Records was born.
What should our readers know about your business?
Hotcakes Records is an independent label proudly based out of Oceanside. Right now, it’s simply the brand through which I release and distribute my music, but I’d like to grow it into something bigger.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love bringing my friends to live shows! My favorite venues include Pour House, Belly Up, Brick by Brick and Til-Two Club. On a more mellow day, I’ll take a friend on a hike or to a yoga class.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m giving this shoutout to my bandmates— Dillan, Eric and Josh. I couldn’t do this without you!
