We had the good fortune of connecting with Jing Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jing, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What truly brings me happiness is my passion for community building and the dynamics involved in creating and sustaining these communities. I’m fascinated by what facilitates the start of new friendships or connections, how they grow, and the methods for preserving them. Whether it’s the shared pursuit of a hobby, common interests, or significant life events, I’m deeply intrigued by what draws people together.

In my journey, I’ve discovered that connecting with others is what lights me up. My initial background in film stemmed from my fascination with storytelling. Interestingly, this passion eventually led me into the world of coffee, as I started writing about coffee, covering everything from coffee festivals to the stories of baristas and roasters.

What struck me profoundly was that many founders and enthusiasts in the coffee world shared a common ethos – a commitment to nurturing and fostering community. I wanted to create a brand that embodied connection, inspiration and joy. My goal was to simplify and make coffee accessible to everyone, ensuring that this gateway to connection was within reach for all. I believe that in this pursuit, we are not only brewing coffee, but also cultivating moments of connection that brighten people’s lives.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Coffee Confessionals stands out as a unique platform dedicated to the world of coffee, offering a rich source of coffee-related information, engaging community stories, and a distinctive online store featuring a range of exclusive coffee blends and single origins from around the world. We are also currently in the process of getting our first brick-and-mortar location open!

Our pride and excitement stems from our commitment to curate delicious and sustainable coffee from around the world. We take the quality of our coffee very seriously, as each bag of beans is meticulously roasted fresh to order. This means we only begin the roasting process once an order is placed, ensuring that our coffee beans remain fresh and we’re not delivering coffee that has been sitting on the shelf for extended periods.

We also want to emphasize the importance of fostering connection with others. Our coffee blend names, such as ‘Spill Your Beans Espresso,’ crafted from a blend of dark roasted beans from around the world, and ‘Half Caf Convo,’ a blend of decaf and single origin coffee sourced from Peru, are just a glimpse of the fun and creative reminders we use to encourage people to stay connected with each other.

The journey to where we are today hasn’t been easy. Like any business, we faced numerous challenges along the way. Building a coffee brand from scratch was a labor of love that required dedication, resilience, and a willingness to adapt to changing times, especially after 2020.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was picking up a friend from LAX airport, I’d first take them to Manhattan Beach pier to soak up the SoCal sunshine and maybe play some beach tennis (I’ve recently become a big fan)! Then I’d take them to Griffith Observatory (best views of LA). On the way to Griffith Observatory, we’d have to make a quick pit stop to my favorite coffee shop in Los Feliz – Brū Coffeebar. Then onto the galleries and museums in the Arts District in DTLA and finally ending up at my favorite French restaurant, House of Cocotte, in DTLA. If we have time for a day trip, I’d also squeeze in Ojai, one of my favorite towns near LA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are too many people to name who have supported and encouraged me along the way – my family, friends and mentors, most notably Marybeth Sigler, Sapana Shah Grossi, Tony Prado, Stephynie Malik, Andrew Lee Miller and many more.
