We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Reichel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bri, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I feel like my work life balance has gone from all work all of the time to setting a more structured work schedule for myself. I am a new mom so I try to make my family my priority. It was a difficult adjustment but when I give myself quality time with my son I feel refreshed and eager to go back to work and give my clients my undivided attention.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been in a creative space whether it be professionally or just for fun. I used to dance Latin ballroom in NYC and would go into get my eyelashes done before big competitions. I was already a licensed Esthetician so I thought it would be fun to go to Lash school. From their my clientele kept growing and I kept getting asked if I did permanent makeup. Over the years I learned how to do Microblading, permanent eyeliner and now lip blush. There are only so many doll heads and fake skin sheets you can practice on before jumping into tattooing on a real person. This is extremely nerve wracking. Because I’ve started my career as an esthetician, massage therapist, lash artist and even did some dancing I feel as if those things helped me understand the body and allowed me not to be timid in my craft.
I pride myself in giving the best possible service to my clients and if I feel like I cannot achieve what they want I will tell them so. Honesty is the best policy in my book. I’ve heard several artists use the phrase “fake it until you make it” and although I can see how that may slide in some industries, when it comes to permanent makeup I will not “fake it”. I will let you know what my capabilities are and show you my credentials.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely recommend going paddle boarding in the Carlsbad Lagoon followed by brunch at Le Papagayo in Carlsbad. I love sending friends to Carlsbad Village to shop at some of the cute boutiques and possibly catch the farmer’s market. Another one of my favorite spots is the rooftop at the mission pacific hotel in Oceanside. It’s a killer place to catch the sunset and it’s quite a vibe. My next recommendation is grabbing dinner at Wrench and Rodent in South Oceanside. They have the freshest and most unique take on sushi. Their dishes not only taste incredible but are gorgeous to look at.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve always worked at a big spa and was subject to having my work and holiday schedule handed to me. I started listening to the podcast called “How I built this” and it sparked my interest. It shares the stories and struggles of successful entrepreneurs and how they achieved their goal of a thriving business.
Once I decided to venture out on my own, there was no looking back. I owe a huge shoutout to my parents for being extremely supportive and taking the best care of my son while I’m at work and to my husband who works very hard at his own career to hold down the home front while I can focus on Bri’s Beauty Grotto. It really does take a village.
