Meet Jay Shells | Father to Elijah first and Creative Director to Hdqtrs Nyc

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Shells and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Wanted to see my vision come to full life and take the chance on myself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out joining the United States Marine Corps at 18 after I tried college for 6 months. No, far from easy, if anything my career has been the hardest thing I have ever done in my life and continues to be as I grow. I overcame all obstacles in my life with the love and support of my family friends and honestly strangers that I have never met via social media that have been amazing at supporting my projects. Lessons I have learned is that nothing in life can’t be figured out. That even the darkest times eventually have some light waiting for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places are along coast highway Fish101 in Encinitas is amazing for fresh shrimp tacos. La Jolla Cove for some amazing views. Downtown SD for some city life and great dinning, to name a few spots would be Bang Bang for some of their great sushi and music vibes. Would definitely not miss out on MCASD for such great art exhibits and the location of it just offers great views of the ocean.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Always to my Son Elijah Hunter 11.16.12 – 9.10.14 and my older sister Nina 1.21.80 – 12.31.21 both have been a huge input on everything and anything I have done and will do. My friends and family have been nothing but supportive and I couldn’t be where I am without them. Too many to name they all know who they are
