Meet Jason Patio | Visual Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Patio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, what do you attribute your success to?
It goes behind the saying, “If you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life.” I believe you absolutely have to enjoy the career you are in, in order to find that success we all hope for. For me, that is the main reason behind the accomplishments of my brand; the process of creating something out of a mere idea and watching it blossom into a product is one of the most exciting things I look forward to in my career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I am most proud of is my consistency; I feel like being in this field for so long, you would get fatigued with being a designer. I still get excited when I see new compositions and styles churn out and it makes me want to up my game and design more. I genuinely love the craft and admire learning; especially studying new skill sets that can expand my arsenal in this career that I believe has elevated me professionally.
Was my road easy? I would honestly say it had a lot to do with luck. Opportunities came and it was up to me to take a chance. If it worked out, great! If not, it was just another way of learning to become better.
What would I want the world to know? I do think it is important to be able to teach what you have learned to those who may look up to you. Not gatekeeping information and leaving your door open to peers is important to sustain a great network and can lead to opportunities for them and maybe yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is the mecca of the word, “Chill.” Great people, pretty cool dining locations to experience, and unique spots. I, however, approach things a bit differently and would take my friends on a little secret adventure. I admire exclusive or hidden gems scattered throughout my city and would take those visiting for a week, to those!
I love speakeasies and know all the locations and themes here in SD so instead of a bar crawl, we would be on a mixologist tour every night. My wife and my favorite locations are Realm of 52 Remedies in Convoy – an Asian theme bar and cocktails – where the menu is switched out every season so you get a different experience each time. Then we would hop over across the street to another speakeasy favorite, Convoy Music Bar which hosts a DJ that plays vinyl old-school music and offers Japanese-inspired drinks and snacks.
If food was to your liking, I would suggest a hidden rooftop bar near The Seaport village called, “Seneca Trattoria” which is a seafood and Italian spot with an amazing view and a well-decorated interior. Across the street is a Wagyu steakhouse called, “Animae” where I have heard nothing but amazing things about the food and chef, and is a dine-in experience you can not pass up.
Suggestions on recreational activities to no surprise and keeping up with the theme is the Escape Rooms you can find in just about every county. Just something about secret passageways and hidden features fascinates me. Using your good ole noggin’ and playing escape rooms is so much fun and with these spots in SD, you can’t go wrong!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wifey! She has been my number 1 support system for so long. She picks me up when I am creatively drained, encourages me when I am feeling the imposter syndrome creeping up, and gives me honest critiques that help me improve. She is an amazing woman and an even better friend. I would not be where I am today if it was not for her endless unconditional love.
I also want to shout out my friends; the real ones who consistently re-post/share my work through social media. It’s been very heartwarming knowing I have a corner of people who are consistently there for me rooting for me to succeed.
Lastly, my parents; they have always been so patient and kind to me ever since I can remember. Never discouraged me from drawing or art and let me be me. They trusted God in my process, knew I was great at this field, and gave me all the tools I needed to be great at what I do.
