We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Kosowesky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Over the years of being a retoucher you learn a lot of lessons along the way. These types of lessons can be very minuscule or very significant and can be a positive or negative. Having a hiccup or two in your career can have an impact on your business but can also help you along the way for the future. Going into freelancing was a totally new world that I jumped into and took a couple of years to get my bearings. Without learning lessons along the way I wouldn’t be still freelancing to this day. You just need to pick yourself up and keep moving forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The key word to explain my freelance career so far is ‘patience’. Patience is the only reason why I am still doing to work that I enjoy doing. It took several years to get my bearings before I had more work but once I did I was very happy that I stuck to it. It’s like the saying “Good things happen to those who wait.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The area of Indiana I’m from is very much a small town. I’ve had some clients shocked at where I’m based while a lot of my clients are located in cities. I’ve always enjoyed living in a lot less chaotic and busy area. If I had a friend visit for the week we would of course have to go to the Indiana Dunes which is a very popular area. There are a lot of small towns in the area so there are plenty of small business to visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the photographers that always comes to mind is Bella Kotak. I’ve always loved her work and love how she’s inspired my nature.
