We had the good fortune of connecting with Makaela Isaacs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makaela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Covid hit and all of a sudden I had way too much free time! Instead of dwelling in my isolation I looked at this weird and depressing time as an opportunity to build up personal autonomy and freedom to work from anywhere. I spent hours researching and building up skill sets. I took master classes and watched countless you tube videos. I am still learning years later and could not be more grateful for the community and opportunities that have been fostered through my business and entrepreneurial life style.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of my work with the permanent jewelry brand LinkedbyLCali. I’ve been able to scale her business, revenue and clientele immensely after having the privilege to work alongside owner, Lori Cali, for almost a year now. I’ve leveraged my creativity by curating a unique color scheme, customized fonts and aesthetics for her brand. I’m most excited for our new implementation of the permanent necklace chain offered in 14K Sterling Silver, 14K Solid Yellow Gold, 14K Solid Rose Gold, and 14K Solid White Gold that have already sold at a rate higher then our other jewelry items!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much! I’d start off the day at Communal Coffee and recommend the specialty lavender honey latte. Then, I’d take us on a walk through Torrey Pines and take in the panoramic ocean views!! If we are feeling up for an adventure I would recommend jet skiing through the bay using San Diego Bay Adventures at sunset. However, if we wanted a more relaxed night, I would opt to watch sunset at Sunset Cliffs whilst enjoying a take out meal from Flower Child(one of my favorite restaurants!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Poetry in general has always inspired me and ignited a creativity beyond what I could have imagined. Leaning into reading and writing poetry was a great creative outlet and de stressing tool I used when starting my business, especially because I was so isolated during Covid. Specifically, one of my favorite books is “Yesterday I was The Moon” by Noor Unnahar. Whenever I was feeling burnt out or lacking creative energy I would read and/or write poetry and feel rejuvenated and ready to tackle the next task in my business.
