Stories, Lessons & Insights

We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

It’s been a true evolutionary process, unfolding over many years. I’ve always been a caretaker at heart, and that is what first guided me into yoga training. From there, I was drawn into deeper philosophical explorations—studying different styles of yoga, meditation, breathwork, somatics, and eventually, astrology. From there is seemed to naturally led me to energy work and a deeper relationship with the gifts of the Earth: stones, crystals, and healing plants. Read More>>

What inspired me to start this journey 25 years ago wasn’t business or money—it was beauty. I’ve always been drawn to the way light hits a tree at sunset, how a room feels when the morning sun pours in, and the quiet details God placed in the world around us. Nature, light, and the feeling of home have always spoken to me.
Photography became a way to honor that—and starting my own business gave me a way to share that vision with others. This is not just a job for me, its part of who I am. Read More>>

I’m deeply inspired by nature, especially wild, untamed landscapes that mirror emotional depth and transformation. The desert, in particular, has played a huge role in my own rebirth. There’s something about the stillness, the silence, the extremes of heat and light that forces clarity. It strips you down. There’s no distraction, no noise, just you, your longing, and whatever truth you’ve been avoiding. Read More>>

One of the most important habits that has helped me succeed is maintaining a consistent work ethic—regardless of the immediate outcome. Over the years, I’ve learned that if I tie my motivation too closely to visible success or short-term results, I can easily become discouraged, which disrupts my creative momentum. Instead, I’ve trained myself to stay committed to the process itself. I keep showing up, putting in the work, and trusting that the results will follow in their own time—and, surprisingly, they often do. Read More>>

Setting a schedule has definitely helped with my work ethic! I currently have 2 jobs, as well as an occasional weekend job, so my schedule does get pretty packed! However, when I am able to compartmentalize my priorities in each role, it makes it easier and more manageable to maximize my creativity. Read More>>

In one word: trust. In many word… I’ve intentionally built my brand with a lot of heart and transparency because I want people to feel safe with me. I value connection over profit, and I like to think that approach is felt by the wonderful people I get to photograph. Yes, I’m hired as a photographer – but I genuinely view my job as so much more. I’m a planner, a sounding board, an advocate, a calm presence, and sometimes the person giving that hard truth with the right intentions. Read More>>

The most important lesson my business has taught me is the power of being present and truly connecting with each family I photograph. Whether it’s a family vacation or a milestone moment, my role as a photographer goes beyond just capturing images—I’m there to create a space where families feel comfortable, seen, and understood. As a business owner, I try my best to maintain balance—as much as I can. In the early years of building Salsa Digital, work often came first, and I didn’t always know when to step back. It was all-consuming because I was so passionate about what I was creating. But over time, I realized that constantly being “on” wasn’t sustainable. Read More>>

In this season of my life, I’m balancing being a mom, a hairdresser, and a garden educator. It’s a full life, and one I’m deeply grateful for. Before becoming a mom, I went through a sad divorce at 30. The divorce gave me the time and the need to keep mentally busy. I had already laid a strong foundation as a hairdresser, and for the next 5 years, I threw myself into hair working nearly every day: behind the chair, styling weddings, educating hairdressers for Pureology and a styling class I developed, leading fashion shows, traveling to expand my education, and working with a few famous clients. In my spare time, I went rock climbing and salmon fishing. Read More>>
