Perspectives on Risk-Taking

There is a wealth of academic research that suggests that differences in risk appetite are at the heart of differences in career and business trajectories. We wanted to go beyond the theory and ask real people from the community about their perspectives and experiences with risk and risk taking.

Risk is part of any growth process in life. We are at risk in all moments of our lives.
Most people are afraid of failure, of not being able to achieve what they feel called to do. The reason is that it’s hard, and they don’t know if they can endure the darkest moments and keep pushing forward, trusting that it will work out. Read more>>

I don’t believe you get very far without taking risks throughout your career. I’ve changed paths several times, asked tough questions, and made certain choices that some may consider too risky. But I always keep enough trust and faith in myself that I will land on my feet. Taking these risks has led me to discover even more about myself as a person and artist. I think that owning a flower shop has taught us that taking risks can lead to both challenges and rewards! When we first opened our shop in 2018 of course we knew it was a risk to invest our time, money, energy, basically everything into a business that could have easily failed. That being said, over time we have learned that embracing the challenges and pushing through the tough moments (like a global pandemic!) can lead to growth and evolving from whatever happens along the way!
