We had the good fortune of connecting with ZOO HEAD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ZOO, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
There’s been moments where I’ve wanted to sell all my music gear and run away. I’ve broken down crying and praying I would have an answer to what my purpose is.
I’ve come to believe that you create your purpose. And right now I feel that The Divine (God/Universe) is calling on me to continue the path I’m on.
That “gut feeling” or intuition is simply what keeps me from giving up.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a zebra who makes music and I’m most excited about connecting with my animals through my groovy oddball bangers! :p
I got here from being persistant, believing myself and taking risks! I’ll NEVER let fear hold me back and I’m willing to do whatever it takes within my morals to keep growing and improving at my craft.
It was not easy, I’ve had to overcome a shit ton of self-sabotaging mental blocks.
I overcame them because my fear of giving up was BIGGER than my fear of growing.
I’ve learned so many lessons… but to name a few:
1. Caring what people think of you is a MASSIVE waste of time/energy
2. There’s no short cuts to greatness
3. Your gonna die so might as well say “FUCK IT” and follow your heart
4. Taking time to watch sun set, drink water and slow down is very important
5. Internal peace is something you can practice and improve upon
I want the world to know that ZOO HEAD is a movement to help the weirdos/insecure people grow and find love within. ZOO HEAD shows create an environment for people to be free to express the most outlandish dancing. WHERE MY ANIMALS AT!??!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them in the ZOOmobile (the ZOO HEAD van) and drive onto the top of a mountain and watch sunset, eat some dank food and smoke a lil baby jay if we feelin’ groovy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Every homie that’s supported me from Lakeside. To name a few: Tom, B-load, Corky, Slurp, Swaggy, and the list goes on…
My parents for giving me the freedom to pursue my dreams. Love you Ma & Pa.
My brotha Lyle Sprecco. He’s my cousin & photographer/cinematography and has had my back since day one. Big Bless!
Eric Stephenson, he’s the dude who filmed my music video “Tuesday Girl” & “Sexual Daydreams” He’s incredibly talented and can make any of my ideas come to fruition.
Shout out T-Chronic, he was the dude who first got me to perform live! And has been a major light in my journey.
I want to thank Lau! Lau is a friend of mine who really pushed me outside of my comfort zone. She helped me realize what it truly means to “be yourself”. Before I do crazy shit, I’m usually like ” what would Lau do?” lol
My friend Sarah June. She’s so incredibly driven and buisness minded and has helped me book numerous shows and saw something in me that maybe I didn’t fully see in myself.
Last but definitely NOT least, my roommates! They are Swanny, Sterling and Emmett. All of them have helped me immensely on my journey and I for sure wouldn’t be where I’m at without them.
There’s so many more people I could name… If I left you out. BIG LOVE <3
