We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Bess Chiu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy Bess, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
This meal prep business has given me such an incredible space to spread awareness of causes that I care deeply about while providing nourishing meals back to the community, as well as raising funds for local nonprofits and individuals directly.
It started off with matching each order with a donated meal back to families and elderly impacted by the pandemic throughout Los Angeles County. I then transitioned to setting aside $2 from every order to organizations that provide social services for immigrants and survivors of domestic violence, GoFundMe’s for victims of recent AAPI hate crimes, as well as to the families of those who have lost their lives to police brutality.
Recently, I began matching meals again and since January 2021, have donated over 350 nourishing meals and over $400 in hopes to bring love, hope, and healing to our world.
What should our readers know about your business?
As a student pursuing my master’s in psychology, I am such a huge advocate for mental health. I truly believe that everything we consume and surround ourselves with impacts our emotional and mental well-being more than we realize.
Fueling our bodies with good food is such an essential component to living healthier and happier lives. What I pride myself most about the services I offer is that you can always count on the meals being made with an abundance of love and with your health and happiness in mind.
What really sets my services apart from traditional meal prep companies is that I love taking special requests for a wide variety of international cuisines, nostalgic family recipes, and pretty much bringing to life any idea sent my way.
More than anything, I hope that each meal I serve truly nourishes, energizes, and brings joy to whoever is eating them. Whenever I’m cooking, it always feels like I’m making dinner for a family member or a loved one, so every part of the creation process brings so much joy to me.
What we eat makes a world of difference in our energy levels, our moods, and our daily performance. I truly believe that the better we feel, the better we can show up for ourselves and the ones we love most.
Turning my passion into a business has been one of the most magical things I have ever experienced. With that transition, I quickly learned that making mistakes was going to be inevitable. Instead of feeling discouraged or down on myself, I strive to use every mistake as an opportunity for growth. Adopting that mindset has helped me to bounce back quickly and to always keep an optimistic outlook on life in general.
Learning to navigate a healthy work-life balance made a world of difference for me as well. Throughout the week, I am constantly switching gears from shopping for groceries, studying for grad school, cooking for customers, spending time with loved ones, practicing yoga, creating new recipes, and everything in between!
Overall, it has truly been a gift being able to wake up every day and share what I love doing most while spreading love through food. I would love to wrap this up by sharing a quote that I simply adore by John Wesley.
“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”
This has been so wonderful and thank you so much for having me here with you all today!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this to my mom and dad. Their compassion, humor, and endless encouragement continues to inspire me to share my love and dedicate my life to making this world a better place.
