We had the good fortune of connecting with Vesela Deterline and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vesela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I believe the most important factor would be discovering your target customers and marketing it only to them. As narrow as possible.
To be honest when I started the brand I was experimenting with styles of marketing, bringing my products to a farmers market, pop up shops which turned out to be very disappointing because the product that I have doesn’t sell in places like these.
Once I knew exactly who would wear the clothes that I was making everything was much easier and I started having sells.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create custom tulle clothes made to order. My customers can pick and choose from different styles and colors or create something completely unique with my help, I like to call them one of a kind outfits made just for them. How special is that? To be treated with such attention as you are the most important person. The personal connection with every costumer is so precious to me.
I think the best way to advance is to set goals and after completing them set more then there is no other way to go but up. It’s important that these goals are realistic. I am where I am because I take a step by step trying not to skip anything on the way or go over my head. Don’t take an order you can’t complete. I still have limit number orders that I can take because I have one seamstress and there is me doing everything else and sewing sometimes too.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, man! Our state is the best! Of course we are going to start with one of the mom and pops Mexican restaurant. I know bunch of them in Escondido. Then will be the beach, of course, ( sunset cliffs).
I am originally from Bulgaria ( little, but mighty country in Easter Europ) so my best friend coming from there hasn’t seen alot of the things that Born Americans are so used to.
We will drive scutters downtown San Diego, Balboa park. Go to the Oceanside sunset market, little Italy.
Coronado bridge. Spreed boats ride or an evening cruise.
Can you believe we don’t have rollercoasters in Bulgarian. I will definitely take her there. Old town and Coyote restaurant.
I will definitely take her to LA as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Her name is Fetu Escoto and she was a God sent. This wonderful person discovered, my back then sad 100 followers, Facebook page and invited me collaborate with her and couple other photographers and models for a “Alice in Wonderland” shoot.
I can still remember when one photographer said ” This is the designer of TulleVess” . That was the firs time someone called me designer, in that moment everything felt so real and happening.
Since this shoot I started making connections with other photographers and models for future collaborations, everything was happening so natural and easy.
Me and Fetu are still very good friends. She has a non- profit bully prevention “Bee like you ” and I take part as a guest designer in her charity fashion shows.
