We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Melendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’m someone that always has tons of ideas constantly brewing. I noticed that if I was working a job where I couldn’t express myself creatively I would start to feel stagnant. I decided I would never be happy unless I was pursuing the career I wanted for myself. Photography came natural to me and always felt exciting!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

It took me a while to really formulate my style and build a convincing portfolio. I’m inspired by cinematically beautiful movies, editorial magazines, my fellow artists, and most importantly nature. I had to do A LOT of free work to make it happen, but the knowledge I gained and the tools I picked up along the way made it all worth it. Now I get to enjoy the career I dreamed up.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my best friends Monica(@tropicalmo) and her husband Edu(@doctorstockz) visited for four days recently. I haven’t seen her in over 5 years so I was thrilled to have them. I’d say they’re one of the most interesting people I know. They’re constantly exploring the world and only own three bags of belongings altogether. They’re super into health spiritually and mentally. When they were here we explored Carlsbad beach, Torrey Pines for a hike, had Ding boba Tea, took turns cooking delicious meals at home, and created footage for our businesses. They also introduced me to Sadhguru. Which I now love and watch frequently to learn knew healthy perspectives on the world and how to maintain our inner peace. Monica and Edu are currently in France and will be in Madrid next. 🤍

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

“I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work,I wanna thank me for having no days off. I wanna thank me for never quitting. I wanna thank me for always been a giver and trying to give more than I receive. I want to thank me for trying to do more right than wrong. I want to thank me for just being me at all times.”-Snoop Dogg

Hahaha Also, would love to thank my close friends and family. Each and every one of them has encouraged me. And a special thanks to my parents.
