We had the good fortune of connecting with Trevor Plume and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trevor, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Passion, which is what I’ve always tried to construct my music around, isn’t forgiving of quitting. There had been many times throughout the tumultuous genesis of my group, The Guest Room, that we felt things going nowhere. I think if not for our love of writing, playing, and performing, we would have gave up pretty early on. Even through a once in a century pandemic, we’ve found the will to keep on because our passion and love for the music we create doesn’t go away. Because of this, I find it hard to imagine anything, be it negative reviews, financial woes, etc., keeping us from continuing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Outside of my musical ambitions and pursuits, I work professionally as a Mechanical Engineer. Everyday, I feel fortunate that I am able to do work that directly affects people in such a positive and sometimes immediate way. Though it was not easy, I found myself surrounded by friends and colleagues willing to help and mentor me, leading me to the place I find myself today. I’ve always tried to take any lessons from any job or team, and apply them as best I can to my musical pursuits. I think my love of math, science, and engineering, has played a big role in how I write music and manage my group.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to plan out a general itinerary for a week I would INSIST we eat at Civico 1845 in Little Italy! Not much else matters if you go there at least one night. Quite honestly, it’s kind of difficult to imagine doing anything fun out in public right now, but eating good food is always an imperative. I think going to most San Diego beaches is a safe choice, as well. You can never go wrong with a relaxing (or adventurous) beach trip!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If not for our amazing friends and families, we would not have been given the opportunities we’ve been so luckily afforded. They, along with our creative friends and communities have helped guide us to the path we are on now. Thank you!
