We had the good fortune of connecting with Tom Jimenez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tom, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came back in 2009 to playing music after a 12 year hiatus, also after pursuing a career in Firefighting and Paramedicine. Immediately I wanted to record the band I was in, only because I was never happy with the studios I went to years ago. So I bought Pro tools software which to me was like learning a new language. I immediately loved it and began recording my own band. I was terrible at first, of course, but soon caught on and started recording bands for free off of Craigslist around 2014. It took off from there, and I have not looked back.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I record & mix music for all types of artists & genres. I have recently niched down to mostly rock and metal bands locally and remotely. My first and most important things is customer service, by giving them the best experience and final outcome as possible, and never stopping until they are happy and satisfied. This journey has had its ups and downs just like any new adventure would. My key word of advice to myself everyday is “Never stop, never quit” because thats the only way you will fail. I have learned most of my customer service skills from being 911 Paramedic for 23 years. I used to be somewhat of an introvert, but in this business there is no where to hide. It forces you to learn how to connect and reach people on a business and personal level. This experience has helped shape me into be a good person that wants to help solve their problems within my capabilities.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots are mostly restaurants and live music venues such as Goldfields, Ace Of Spades, On The Y, Crawdads on the River, Oshima Sushi, and Swabbies. All great places for food and live music. Other than that we mostly go to concerts, festivals or to the Coast and Tahoe, hanging out with close friends and family. Sorry if that seems boring, haha.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
