We had the good fortune of connecting with Tobias Platt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tobias, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think the biggest risk is not taking a risk in all honesty. The risks that I’ve taken in my life have been for the benefit of me, myself and I. I’m sure I’ll be taking more risks as my life goes on.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started making beats and producing in April of 2018. Before I even started, I was always a huge fan of music. I just never visioned myself as a creative person. What sets me apart from other producers and beat makers is my versatility when it comes to making beats. I can create beats for a diverse range of different artists. Beats on my hard drive consists of something a lyrical artist can pour out their soul on, something an R&B artist can sing about their love life on, and something for today’s mainstream artist with hard 808’s and rapid hi-hats. Being a student of the game and being super passionate about music (hip-hop in particular) has gotten me to where i’m at now. It definitely wasn’t easy. I still face challenges to this day. There is always something I want to learn to help improve my craft as a producer/engineer. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned so far is to keep the passion the main focus. If the passion isn’t there, then everything wouldn’t be as fun. I would want the world to know that my sound is constantly evolving and not boring at all!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Cowle’s mountain for a workout/wonderful scenery. I love to exercise. I even make my guests workout. Burger Lounge, Italianissimo, Tacos el Gordo, Royal Mandarin, and In n Out would be consumed throughout the week. We would definitely get turnt up in PB. Hanging out at my parents place is mando. My mom makes the best meals.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Big shoutout to God. Without His wisdom and guidance in my life, I don’t know where I’d be. Shout to my parents for believing in me and my dreams. They always been super supportive. Shout out to my brother and sister for inspiring me to keep pushing with my education. They’re both gifted and passionate people. Shouts out to my family back east for the scholarships that they granted me throughout college. Shouts out to all my creative homies (producers, artist, etc.) for inspiring me to be more creative.
