We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia Brumbelow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia, what are you inspired by?
Besides my faith, I’m inspired by the daily happenings of life. Whether it’s shapes I notice, a color scheme I fall in love with, my kid’s needs and even trends – these every day things inspire my sourcing and designing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What started out as a creative outlet to spread awareness about our oldest son’s rare condition with baby clothing and prints, evolved into a shop that now includes my love of home. There are lots of amazing home decor shops out there including those that offer fair trade and ethically made products. What makes Dex and Bodie a bit different , I think, is the way I curate and design. I often choose pieces that I would put into my own home or even my friends and family. I like to stick with neutrals that complement one another and can fit with many different design tastes. I definitely do not want to just throw a collection together – I want each piece to make your home feel welcoming. Not only to guests but to you, too! Today, I feel like this shop is really beginning to grow and head in a direction I’m excited about. I recently started placing pieces in a local collective shop and each month I’m popping up more often. It definitely has not been easy especially during the ongoing pandemic. As so many have, I’ve experienced cancellations, including the opportunity to have my own space. The good thing is, I don’t see it as a set back but as another opportunity to renew , refresh and keep growing. I know that God will open the door he has for me at the right time- and I’ll be ready! What I would most want people to know about my brand is that, I care. I truly want your space, whether large or small, to be a place you can feel calm and happy. I believe the space where you dwell can be a place of warmth and peace. If owning a beautiful item helps, that makes me so happy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m definitely a local girl at heart. I love visiting things around my city. Some of my favorites are the Hangar at LBX, all of the Steelcraft locations and local breweries. I also love a great wine tasting trip, so a day trip to Temecula is always a good idea.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family including my husband and sons have been a huge support and my biggest cheerleaders. Also, every single shop owner I meet at various markets are a constant choir of support and encouragement. I am always in awe of how and what they do and they inspire me all the time. The Instagram community as also been a huge blessing and has allowed me to really truly grow organically and have an actual connection to my customers.
