We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Hinds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because I had no choice after raising three kids and finally having the freedom to do what I had always believed I was born to do. The passion for music, poetry, photography, and sketching had been simmering under the surface of my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a writer. I write songs, poetry and have been compiling short stories most of my life. I have two books of poetry, three full length albums and two EPs along with a single I released back in 2020. I would say what sets me apart from others is that I am unapologetically me. I have my own voice both as a writer as well as a singer and I realize that is the only way to be unique in this artistic landscape these days, be your true self. I am extremely proud of how patient I have been over the last twenty years waiting for a chance to rekindle the career I had put away so many years ago. I took the chance to do this full time in 2019 and as I moved forward doors have opened and continue to as I step forward in faith and dedication to this craft. It was extremely terrifying to let go of a steady job I had worked at for nearly twenty years to pursue my passion and use my gifts. I slowly over the last decade accumulated the equipment I would need and continued to hone the craft of songwriting, singing, and guitar playing along the way. The biggest lesson I would say I learned over the last five years was to trust my instincts that people and opportunities would arrive as I continued to move forward in my growth, using every experience as a lesson for the next stage of this lifelong pursuit. I want the world to know there is always hope no matter how dire the current climate is around us. I want no one to feel they are alone and the only one, we all have common ground so let’s meet there and build toward a future we can all believe in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am continually learning new places to go around here. I have only lived here the last five years but I find there are tons of hiking trails, great restaurants and plenty of amazing live music in the area that the week will fly by in a blink of an eye.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many folks that have been encouraging and helped in the journey of becoming a full time artist. Jesse Landers from Georgia Songbirds is at the top of the list since I relocated to Georgia from New Mexico in 2019. Gregg Erwin with Gregg Erwin Music in northern Georgia. Carey Hood from Round Up Promotions, Kelly Martin from KNL Promotions, Ann and Erin at 360 Degrees Inc, countless venues that have asked me to return over the years and so many friends and fellow artists who have been generous with their time and talents.
