Meet Tatiana Velasquez | Makeup Artist & Cookie Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatiana Velasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from San Diego with a Mexican/Lebanese background. Ever since I was 13 years old, makeup has always been something I enjoyed learning about and putting on. I obtained a majority of my makeup inspiration from youtube videos. That’s where I learned how to apply makeup starting from mascara all the way to putting on foundation. I enjoyed watching videos so much that I even started my own youtube channel Tati B. On my channel, I create different looks and review beauty products. From my YouTube channel I then created my own makeup business, which has always been a dream of mine. Being a makeup artist has really allowed me to be creative and create looks for my clients that will make them feel beautiful. Makeup is an art and I feel that people can express themselves in different ways.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I currently run two businesses, first being my cookie business @Delightfulsweetssd and second is my makeup business @Makeupbytati26. Having a business can be stressful but rewarding especially when running two. With my makeup business I use social media, customer engagement and marketing techniques to put myself out there. The reaction of friends/family and social media followers based on my makeup skills encouraged me to pursue being a makeup artist. Makeup has always been a passion of mine. I am able to apply the same marketing techniques that I use for my cookie business, to expand my make-up clientele. As a whole, having my own business requires putting in lots of time, knowing makeup/cosmetics, skin type, and having an artistic imagination. The excitement with makeup is unlike any other for me, being able to do makeup for brides on their special day or even makeup for a special event is the most exciting thing for me. I enjoy interacting with my clients and making sure that they like the work that I am doing. I have such a strong passion for makeup and I think everyone around me sees my face light up when I’m talking about cosmetics. I have done so much research on different makeup products, and skin types that I can talk about it all day long. There is so much to makeup and I am constantly motivated to learn more and I feel that being a makeup artist is what I was destined to do and is my passion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some places I love to eat at are El Pollo Grill in Otay ranch, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Eastlake where Delightfulsweetssd cookies are sold, and I am a big fan of Tocaya and Panini Kabob Grill in Del Mar. My Favorite Places to visit and walk around are Little Italy, La Jolla and Liberty Station with stunning picture worthy views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A person who motivated me and believed in me is my mom, Lali Barhoumi, a former principal. I adore my mom and she has supported me since the beginning of my makeup journey. She knows how much makeup means to me and she knew I had talent years ago. With her guidance and encouragement she believed in my makeup skills and saw how I was able to transform people with the use of makeup. I want to thank her and everyone else for their constant support. It truly means the world to me and I am so grateful.
