We had the good fortune of connecting with Sylvia Padro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sylvia, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Go where you are celebrated, not merely tolerated.” I heard this quote in my early 20’s, and I felt it came to me at the perfect time. I was feeling stuck at a job that treated me like they were just tolerating me. I practiced what this quote said and have led my life through it as time has passed. This applied to my business as well. I realized I was being celebrated by friends and family for my keto and sugar free desserts, that I should take this as a sign and open up my talent to the community- or the world! We think big here!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a home-based bakery that focuses on baking Keto friendly baked goods and desserts! What sets me apart from others is not only the taste, but the love that goes into my products. If I’m not feeling my best, I’m not baking. I believe when you are a creator, your products made by your hands carry your energy. My baked goods taste the way they do because each and every one of them are baked to perfection, with nothing but love in them.
The moment I was the most proud of myself and my business was the very first pop up I had. I wasn’t sure how the turnout would be, nonetheless I was so worried! Before we even opened up shop, I had a line past a few doors down! And it continued for every single pop up I had after that. The feeling.. was unexplainable. It was pure joy.
I am most excited about expanding someday in the near future. I recently became a mom of 2, so life has been a bit hectic lately, but not letting go of my dreams.
This all started as a hobby, and after many requests I opened up my baking talents to the community. I received so many orders! Was it easy? I think I’d say so. My desserts spoke for themselves. And word of mouth is so powerful. What wasn’t easy is not having a location. I know with a set location I’d acquire more business and reach more potential customers, but that will come soon.
Lessons I learned along the way is to stay true to yourself. Your success will not be welcomed by everyone, and that is okay. There’s a reason why happy people are always on top!
I want people to know that at Ketolicious Bakery (@keto.licious.bakery) everything you try has always been baked by me, and with pure love for my brand and for my community. Living a low carb, sugar free lifestyle doesn’t have to be boring!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I was born and raised in San Diego, and I don’t think I’ll ever leave! If you plan on visiting SD, OH THE PLACES TO GO! It wouldn’t be a San Diego trip without a visit to our most beautiful landmarks. Balboa Park is one of my favorite places to visit. Tons to see, museums to visit, the botanical garden & Koi fish pond are my favorites. After that, a bite to eat my favorite burger joint, Hayes in Barrio Logan. A night out would definitely involve a trip to the Lion’s Share for some roasted carrots and great cocktails. Breakfast is a MUST at Great Maple. Walk off that delicious breakfast at the Portside Pier, and maybe stop for a nice juicy steak and wine at Cowboy Star. Before leaving, make sure you pay a visit to the seals at Childrens Pool in La Jolla. The possibilities for good food and vibes in San Diego is endless!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a young Latina with no guidance or example of entrepreneurship, I felt a lot of imposter syndrome throughout my journey. Many times I doubted myself and my talents. I felt like I was the only one in my corner, afraid to fail. That was until Nikki came in my life. Who knew internet friends could become lifelong friends?! I met Nikki through Instagram and through the Keto community. She’s also a San Diego native and after much chatting we finally met in person and have become more than friends, we are family now. Nikki has ALWAYS believed in my talents. She pushed me to reach for the stars. She reviewed my desserts with her followers and showed up to every single event I’ve had. She’s never let me down. And it’s her I have to thank for the success I’ve built in my brand. It’s her mentorship, it’s her belief in me. It’s having a real, true friend. Her heart is made of gold, and I couldn’t be more thankful for her. I love you Nikki! (@bodybyketoburritos)
