We had the good fortune of connecting with Sustainable Shane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sustainable Shane, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I’m an “Edutainer” – an educator and entertainer. I educate the public on sustainability while making them have a good time. Let’s be honest, change isn’t easy – it takes some time and often some money. BUT! As Sustainable Shane, I show you the cost-benefit of changing your lifestyle to live a more sustainable one. So, I benefit the community through implementing sustainable lifestyle hacks that are sure to make your physical & mental body healthier, raise your social status, and save you some money along the way💚

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sustainable Shane here and I’m your local expert on sustainability. I’m a lifestyle sustainability enthusiast that will help you make small changes to better your life and our planet!

Basically, I’m an Environmental Educator. I’m an Influencer on social media and I’m also the host of “The Sustainability Show”. I’m different than other influencers because I focus on “Edutainment” – education and entertainment. I help my followers learn by making them laugh! I’m proud of this because I get to have a good time while teaching!

I got to where I am today through hundreds of hours of work and dedication. Although I was sustainable before I even knew what the word “sustainable” meant, I quickly became passionate about our environment and chose to dedicate my life to sustainability when I was just 14 years old. Flash forward to over a decade later and I have a degree in sustainability from UC Berkeley, I’m an Environmental Influencer, and a small business owner!

One big lesson I’ve learned along the way is from a quote my dad (who’s a professional artist) has hanging up in his studio: “Find what you love, then figure out a way to make a living at it”. Although I’ve struggled – and still am in many ways – I’ve kept my eye on my passion and not let anything get in the way!

One thing I want the world to know about “Sustainable Shane” is to always feel free to hit me up. I’m a super approachable guy and I love intellectual conversations about any topic – especially sustainability🤪

Stay Sustainable!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
WOOOOWWW this is a lovely and loaded question. First things first, I got some secret spots that I can only show you if you personally hung with me in San Diego. That being said, I still have quite the itinerary for you 😉

We’d start off in my hometown Carlsbad. I’d take them on a stroll through The Village where we’d bop around cool shops and cafes like Giacoletti’s music and Flashbacks vintage clothing. From there we’d eat at Succulent Cafe and then stroll on over to Tamarack state beach. Depending if they surfed (which they prolly do if they’re my friend🤪) then we’d catch some waves.

Next day we’d cruise down to Balboa Park and learn some of the amazing history/culture of America’s finest city. Then we’d bop around artsy Northpark, cruise over to Blacks Beach for sunset, and then dance the evening away at Church of Music.

I’m all about ecotourism as well so we’d have to see the sea lions and seals in La Jolla, take a kayak tour, go on a couple hikes (secret spots), and eat some farm-to-table cuisine.

Sound like a good time? DM on social media @sustainable.shane and I’ll hook it up with some more spots!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout numero uno is to my mom – Carol. You instilled in me a deep love of our planet and to always look at the bigger picture when I was just a wee little lad.

Next up I’d like to shoutout San Diego County and specifically the City of Carlsbad. I admire the many efforts our city has put to protect our local flora & fauna. Forever “Life’s rad in Carlsbad”.

Lastly, I’d like to thank my life coach Andrew Camarda. You seriously have guided me through so much and I’m incredibly thankful for all the necessary space you provide me when I have to map out hard decisions. Thanks brotha!
